Spicy foods to be banned on American airplanes
Edited on Tue Aug-22-06 03:49 PM by TechBear_Seattle
Chillies aid Sumatra jail break

Eighteen Indonesian prisoners broke out of jail using an unusual weapon - the chilli pepper.

Prisoners at Pematang Sinatar jail in Sumatra mixed hot chillies with water in plastic bottles to spray at guards.

The fiery liquid temporarily blinded the guards, allowing prisoners to grab their keys and make the break for freedom.

The story continues at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/5274924.stm

It just won't do, if airline passengers can mix hot chiles with their club sodas and use it as a weapon to take over an airplane.

:sarcasm: ?

13. The same line of thought I had ...
I wouldn't want to be sitting in the area of the "restroom" if someone did not tolerate spicy foods well.

5. All food should be banned on planes.
Any of the toxic swill they serve on flights would make an excellent weapon. Just wave a tray of the dog-entrail casserole they try to pass off as steak (or chicken or fish) at me and I'd go into anaphylactic shock in a second. Even the smell of that offal wafting down the aisle is enough to induce vomiting and convulsions.

Airline food: the real WMD.

6. What's the deal with airplane food?
I mean could this stuff get any worse? And the guy next to me, he loves, he can't get enough of it. I mean, I'm looking for a dog to slip it to, this guy's asking for thirds.

22. Considering that they no longer serve food on short domestic flights
I only eat on overseas flights and find the food
at least palatable if not good. Maybe its the airline I fly?

I just watched V for Vendetta last night and it has me viewing everything even more skeptically than usual.

18. The title is satire, but the article is quite real
I've read about this on the AP wire, too. And think about it: pepper spray is really nothing more than capsicum oil (the very same substance that makes chilis "hot") in a suspension of water, exactly what these people used to escape.

19. Ah, but the peppers themselves are a fruit
And you can get TSA-approved water on board the plane. Pepper spray would be much, much easier to make on board than rocket fuel.

I don't know what those Indonesian prisoners did to be in prison, but I gotta give them kudos for figuring out they could do this. McGyver would be proud!

23. All they did was make pepper spray
Most formulations of pepper spray start with capsicum oil, the very same stuff that gives hot chilies their "bite."

24. There is a myth that someone used salsa to dissolve bars and get out.
They did an episode on Mythbusters about someone who supposedly used salsa to dissolve the bars on his window and escape from jail. They were able to reproduce it by running a DC current through the salsa.
