Best time and place to live?
If you could live at any time on earth, and anywhere on earth when would you choose?

25. I did that...and the memories are always sweeter... And then I think
about waiting for hours in lines for gas...

...A horrible race war in downtown Syracuse...

...the neighbor boy not coming home from Vietnam...

...The first time my father lost a job due to "downsizing"...

...I guess, in hindsight, other eras always appear more appealing.

8. I think late 1950's Los Angeles would be fun.
The Perry Mason era, I guess you could call it. And I'd like to have one of those cool contemporary houses with a view, and a big car in the driveway with gobs of chrome on it.

22. AndyA, If You Like That Era,
Maybe these pieces of ephemera will appeal to you. Make sure to back out and see the whole site. One of my favorites.

After looking at these old restaurants, bars, and hotels for awhile, the past seems incredibly near and palpable. And don't neglect the commentary.

15. My aunt in Brooklyn has told me so many stories about the golden
days in immediate Post War New York, that it seems absolutely fantastic: lots of art, jazz, literature, everyone seemed young and the country was on its "Thank God the Nazis are gone and the Depression is Over" phase...back when you could live on the Grand Concourse or Greenwich Village and most people were union members...Golden!
But then again, immediately preceding and following the French Revolution -- perhaps not in Paris, but close enough to see and talk to Voltaire and Paine and Jefferson and Napoleon...
Or like Johnny Depp, in a small French village in the Langeue d'Oc occasionally going to NY or LA to make money for the wife and kids...eating bread from the local boulangerie, and dining at a place where everyone knows you, your family and your dogs...

24. To be 30 in 1970 would have been very nice..
Still young enough to have enjoyed the 60's, but grown up enough to be "in on" the jobs with pensions and a relatively "calm" time to raise kids.
You would have gotten "old" just at the time of medical achievements, and a "flush" social security to add to the pension (with benefits)...
