Excellent daily piece running on Memorial Hospital pre/post Katrina.

They're midway through a 5-part series on events leading up to, through and after the storm at Memorial Hospital in New Orleans. Parts 1, 2 & 3 are posted on the Times Picayune's web site:
http://www.nola.com/

Some particularly vivid examples of what is was like there early on:

- what nursing staff had to do to get to the main hospital as the storm approached
- what the staff had to go through just to evacuate the few ICU patients who could be taken a day after the storm

Harrowing stuff. To say it was no picnic is an understatement. It was war. It was Hell on Earth.

1. Thanks, I'm looking forward to reading the next two parts..looks
like most of the comments are in support of the doctor and nurses charged with killing the patients.
