1. Plan? Plans are for underlings. My job is deciding.
I've decided we will say there another two years at least, not my job to figure out how we are going to do that.

2. Don't you find it odd that the media is not asking this question?

Marine Corps to start involuntary troop recalls
Tue Aug 22, 2006 2:10pm ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Marine Corps will start recalling thousands of inactive service members in the coming months to counter a steady decline in the number of non-active troops volunteering for duty, the service said on Tuesday.

Col. Guy Stratton, head of the Marine Corps' manpower mobilization plans, said the service is short some 1,200 volunteers over the next 18 months to fill roles in the war on terrorism. The total shortfall fluctuates regularly, he said.

8. I meant seriously about the media asking about a draft
Edited on Tue Aug-22-06 03:38 PM by leftchick
I don't see that happening until the draft actually is here.

3. 2 years? 2 years? That's really dreaming.

Try 10 years for openers.

Not one reduction has taken place, plus 100,000 Iraqi troops have supposedly been added to the forces and th place is still a disaster.

This will go on and until we just up and leave. Iraq cannot be fixed by us or anyone else.

Not quite true. They can fix it themselves. We just have to get out of the way and let them do it.

And write the checks.

7. At the moment, it's draft via stop-loss, but...
It's only a matter of time before stop-lossing troops ceases to be an effective way to address manpower shortages.

I predict draft talk will begin right after the election, especially if it's Diebolded and the Repubs retain control of Congress.
