Why is today (the 22nd) supposedly significant?
Every post for the past week or so on Free Republic has made some reference to a supposed significance of August 22nd. Usually it's connected to articles dealing with Iran or Islam in general.

Tin foil wearing as FR may be, am I missing something about today?

I'd ask them directly but I've been banned so I was hoping someone here could clue me in in case today has some sort of recently uncovered geo-political significance.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

3. August 22: Iranian threat?
What is the significance of Aug. 22? This year, Aug. 22 corresponds, in the Islamic calendar, to the 27th day of the month of Rajab of the year 1427. This, by tradition, is the night when many Muslims commemorate the night flight of the prophet Muhammad on the winged horse Buraq, first to "the farthest mosque," usually identified with Jerusalem, and then to heaven and back (c.f., Koran XVII.1). This might well be deemed an appropriate date for the apocalyptic ending of Israel and if necessary of the world. It is far from certain that Mr. Ahmadinejad plans any such cataclysmic events precisely for Aug. 22. But it would be wise to bear the possibility in mind.

6. Don't forget
Bush will be gone in 3 years. Ahmadinejad will still be there.

7. They also
have elections in Iran. They'll vote him out if they've got any sense.

Plus I really hope Bush is gone in 3 years. He shouldn't be there in the first place. Florida 2000 and Ohio 2004 were fixed.

8. I don't buy into the argument. And of course, we Are All Still Here.
I merely passed along the answer to the OP's question about the possible significance of this date.
