Make it an Apocalypse Nite!
In honor of the end of the world, I propose everyone go out and rent a nice Apocalypse themed movie to celebrate the occasion. For me, I think I'll take the undead approach. Shaun of the Dead and the Dawn od the Dead remake. If they decide to move the date to tomorrow, I'll make Wednesday a natural disaster theme nite.

Who's with me????

1. I'm watching Apocalypse Now Redux, THX 1138 and Soylent Green...
...tonight making it a triple feature Apocalypse evening. All three movies were originally released in the early 1970s and are prophetic of what is happening in America right now thanks to BushCo, the neocons, the religious right and the red Kool Aid drinking republican mind-controlled voters.

2. As A New Yorker I Recommend "Escape From New York"
It's got Kurt Russell as "Snake Pliskin" and that hot gal who was the daughter on the Maud TV show.

5. Of course, there's the classics --
When Worlds Collide (for natural disaster), and Dr Strangelove (for nuclear armeggedon).

I always get a kick out of the all white crew that's sent off to populate the new planet.

8. Ever read the book?
Much more nuanced. The Russian, Japanese, Brits, and Germans also got ships built and in the sequel - After World Collide - it goes into how the conflicts (the books being written in the 30s) were carried over into the new world, with inevitable conflict between the democracies and the authoritarians.
