Israeli Minister : Prepare shelters for Iran strike

Eitan: Ready shelters for Iran attack
By JPOST.COM STAFF

Pensioners Minister Rafi Eitan called for the readying of bomb shelters and reinforced rooms countrywide on Tuesday, in advance of a possible conflict with Iran.

The comments were made on the eve of an Iranian announcement regarding the country's nuclear program. The UN has given Iran until August 31 to comply with a Security Council resolution to cease nuclear development. Iran has indicated that on Tuesday they will reject such calls.

During a tour of the North on Monday night, Eitan, who is a former senior Mossad official, said that if there was an escalation between the US and Iran, Israel would be the first to be attacked by Iranian missiles.

"We are liable to face an Iranian missile attack," Eitan told Israel Radio. "The Iranians have said very clearly that if they come under attack, their primary target would be Israel."

4. That ain't fear mongering ...
Frankly, he basically is saying he expects Bushco to attack Iran ... Either he knows something from what he is being told, OR he has common sense ... November elections coming up and:

1) Bushco VERY easily could go back to the well in creating a military action to rationalize not changing power during a time of war ...

2) Bushco could see the possibility of a turnover in the house or senate, and thereby having some kind of accountability, and knowing it needs to light up Iran now, while it can ...

2. August is almost over. Time to introduce that 'new product'
And bush hasn't been getting all the time off he was promised so he is extra cranky. Heads up! This could all get very ugly shortly.

Any news on the Iranian Oil Bourse? When are they selling in Euros?

21. Ha! That's right
You never roll the new product out in August. Wait until September. The hectic summer months will be over and the kids are preoccupied with school.

Then you unveil the new strategy of death and destruction.

Looks like they were paying attention during Marketing 101.

9. Nice try.
They took possesion of it as it appears that there is a property dispute between various parties over the ownership of this rig.

16. "took ownership" is a bit misleading.
Normally, taking ownership of something doesn't imply shooting at it first. Or at least, it didn't used to.

20. Yes.
And I wouldn't necessarily describe that as "taking ownership" either. It may be technically correct, but it isn't very accurate.

24. That historical fact has no bearing on the current discussion...
...and pretending that it does adds nothing to the conversation.

An earlier poster stated:

I simply pointed out that it most certainly "used to" and we've done it.

7. Wow they sent out the "Pensioners Minister" for this?
The neotwits have pulled out all the stops!

Seems like their little scheme to force Syria and Iran to send the calvary in to rescue the Hapless Hezbowlers has not worked out quite like they planned. Woops, no big ass war. Woops IDF unable to dislodge and or defeat, let alone decimate, those pesky Hezbowlers who managed to send their shitty rockets to hit mostly nothing day after day after day. Woops, new tanks vulnerable to dimestore TOWs. Woops, blew up all of Lebanon for no apparent reason. Woops, shaky US/Israel friendly middle east regimes now way shakier. Woops, Olmert's efforts to establish his military street cred turned into street crud, IDF openly complaining about incompetence and idiocy at the highest levels. Woops, nobody could have expected this would happen.

It is always woops with these guys. Woops the levees broke. Woops planes flown into buildings. Woops Iraqis hate our f'ing guts. Woops woops woops.

Is it adult swim time yet?

I read about him in two books.. Profits of War by Ari Ben-Amish(sp?) and a Robert Maxwell bio. Makes sense that he's speaking for the Israeli gov't as the pension minister now.

22. Iran has the inalienable right to develope nuclear energy. There is NO
UN resolution demanding Iran stop developing nuclear energy; there can't be any such thing as Iran UNDER THE NUCLEAR TREATY has an INALIENABLE RIGHT to develope nuclear energy.

What there is is a UN request for Iran to stop temporarily.

FACTS.

26. I don't get it. We lived for decades with enemies with a thousand times
the nuclear potential that Iran has. Why do we want to start an endless conflict now when they don't even have nuclear weapons? We will not have a decisive victory were we prevent them from arming themselves. We will unite the whole Arab world against us and they will cut off our oil supply. That means we fight just for the oil. Not a pretty picture.
