Most of what we once thought of as journalists have become shills. I can't say i wouldn't have done the same. But the fact remains that these guys have become unreliable. That opinion stands until the words fox and news aren't uttered in the same sentence. The main problem is that the people signing the journalists paychecks think it's O.K. to pervert the news for political and financial gain. And regime change in Washington won't change their minds. It's nothing new. And we now have the internet to compensate. Can you imagine the horror of the current Bushco machine being deployed in 1985? We would have been down to pirate radio and smuggled VHS. Fortunately some old school journalists were still with us. And the slime generator hadn't yet been perfected. Accurate reporting of the news is more than pointing a camera. Over at PBS they have some skill at Frontline. But the photo op and sound byte format needs to disappear. Eventually journalism can be rehabilitated. Between Hearst and Murdock we did have a few real news men. It can be cleaned up again. Corporations will fight that effort. And the Republicans will help them. Roaches hate light. A return to not allowing one corporation or individual to own every television and radio station in town would be a nice start.
