TN Senate: Harold Ford Jr. Now Leads In U.S. Senate Race (New Poll)
Edited on Mon Aug-21-06 11:24 PM by Jackson4Gore

Great news guys!

http://haroldfordjr2006.blogspot.com/

The race for U.S. Senate is tied, with Harold Ford, Jr. leading Republican nominee Bob Corker by 2%.

This represents a significant improvement in the Ford/Corker match-up from previous internal public opinion surveys conducted in June and it reflects two other changes – Ford’s favorable rating has overtaken that of Corker and support for Governor Bredesen has solidified considerably. Overall, the political climate, including the issues voters say they consider their top priorities, the discontent with the direction of things in Republican-led Washington compared with satisfaction with the direction in Democrat-led Tennessee, and attitudes toward the President, Governor Bredsen and the nominees in the race for U.S. Senate, are all represent advantages for Ford.

Ford Now Leads - Up from a 7% Corker Advantage in June

Ford Favorability Higher Than that of Corker (and Bush)

Since June, Congressman Ford’s favorable rating rose from 47% favorable/31% unfavorable to 55% favorable/29% unfavorable. During the same period, Mayor Corker’s favorable rating rose from 43% to 48% and his unfavorable rating more steeply – from 16% to 26%. Governor Bredesen enjoys a 77% favorability rating, which is up from 70% in February and essentially the same as his 75% rating in June. In contrast, 47% of Tennessee voters are unfavorable toward the President. While this is a slight improvement since June, it is lower than his February standing.

7. That's great to hear.
My buddy Clay Haynes is in charge of Ford's Ground Operation. Clay is as good as they get at organizing grassroots. Ford is in very capable hands.

10. This IS good
Ford is too good of a politician to be stuck in the House of Rep..

He was stuck in place in the House due to his aspirations clashing with Nancy Pelosi's aspirations. He will be able to get more accomplished without the restictions of being one of 500 votes.

Go Ford!!!!

20. Electronic, but not Touch Screen here in East Tennessee
Knox and many counties around it are using Hart inter-Civic Electronic machines. You dial till your choice is highlighted, then "Select" it. You can go back and forth on the screen pages until you're done. You get a "Recap" of your selections at the end before you "Cast" your ballot.

Not perfect, but better than touch screen systems where the selection matrix can "drift".

Would be much better with voter Verified Paper Ballots as an output from the process, but that's not in the state law yet.

15. I thought Ford would win going away...
He seems like a pretty popular guy and a moderate Dem in a state that isn't as nutty as some of it's southern counterparts.....

16. Democrats Still Best Hope For Most Americans
I appreciate the difficulty people can have making
decisions, but remember the phrase "...if you choose not
to decide, you still have made a choice..." from the song
"Freewill".
People should start with the basics and build on that,
remembering that trying for everything often leaves you with
nothing.
Of course, trying for nothing will most certainly leave
you with nothing.
So what am I trying to say?
The Democrats, for those who have not been involved in
politics, or for those who may be learning new lessons, have
been the best hope for most Americans since probably the Great
Depression.
I realize the arguments to the contrary, but if you're
not advantaged and/or want to live in a healthy, happy,
progressive society, the Democrats are the party that BEST
represents that vision. The world has much to offer if the
basic fundamentals are laid down properly.
Politics could be much more than it is today, but
hopefully you and others will join in creating that situation.
The Democrats will likely adopt positions that the public
pressures them to hold, and Ford, for now, is the best
candidate. We must not try for too much too soon, and try to
be content with improvement in general, that this article
should signify.

17. good news, but it appears to be an internal campaign poll
which I generally take with a grain of salt. I hope it is accurate and I feel Ford probably is closing the gap, but I want to see some independent polling too.

22. Here's all the Tennessee Senate polls so far
Hit this link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tennessee_United_States_Senate_election%2C_2006#General_election

And here is a Wikipedia page that can be used as an index to their Senate race pages. Good for bookmarking.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:United_States_Senate_elections_by_state

The polling information is being promptly updated in Wikipedia.

If all the latest polls are 100% correct, ignoring margins of error, and if the elections were held today, we would pick up 5 Senate seats: Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Tennessee. Montana, which has been polling as another pickup, is currently a tie. And we're knocking at the door in Virginia. We would lose no seats.

It's still a long shot, but it's looking more possible that we could gain the minimum of 6 Senate seats to obtain a majority.

Now it seems even more necessary to help him keep his lead. We can win this and Virginia. We are almost leading there.

23. Harold Ford was pushing for Lieberman on Imus this morning
Edited on Wed Aug-23-06 06:25 AM by MysteryToMyself
Ford said he wasn't going to take sides, but he did. He was 100% talking for Lieberman.

The fact is he has went to the dark side and joined the DINO DLC.

There is an article about him "New Dem of the Week: Rep. Harold Ford, Jr." on the DLC website.
