As Katrina's 1 yr anniversary approaches, must say thank you DUers

Thank you for being here, for continuing to post during that mess. Watching before, knowing what was going on as it was happening, searching for loved ones, working together to help each other, to encourage each other to get out and help and organize and raise holy hell. And now, thank you again, for watching the documentaries, for getting riled up, sad and angry as hell. Onward.

1. Hey UP I want to pat our fellow DU friends on the back also...

As long as we and many others are talking about Katrina....and the Gulf Coast it won't be forgotten....

I am going have a box of Kleenex when I watch the Spike Lee HBO Katrina Documentry....and I am going to get angry all over again.....

12. I hope we get accountability for that fiasco

I still can't believe that it's been a year and the spin machine in DC just keeps rolling, and
we impeached Nixon over a "break-in" at the DNC and it's cover-up. At least no one drowned at
the "Watergate."

3. I was a mod then and I remember searching and searching for posts

from our folks in MS and LA

and the gratitude and relief when they did

trying to find the daughter of the folks who were at Camp Casey when the storm hit

watching the pictures, remembering my years in NOLA and crying and screaming and then searching for posts from our members I knew were in danger

over and over day after day

Dogs that had been adopted out of NOLA.

Katrina brought out the best (and worst) of people.

I wish there was more we can do. I don't have HBO. Does Lee's film speak to what still needs to happen and does he or individuals interviewed speak of an overall plan or timeline for work to be done?

As an American, I am so ashamed that the region is in the state it is in...

The only thing I am proud of is the many many volunteers who have traveled down there again and again this past year. Doing the work the govt won't or can't do.

Sigh. It is so very sad.
