..to the Animal Nations
Edited on Mon Aug-21-06 06:58 PM by undergroundpanther
There are so many dying in the name of profit,I wanted to honor some of them...

Now..the Frogs are leaving us,all the golden eyed beauties, and amphibious flowers of brilliant hues will go away.

No more choruses to give a soundtrack to the springtime twilight..

No more sudden plunk to startle as a bullfrog dives out of sight when I walk by the ponds'edge..

The Tigers So magnificent ,beautiful masterpieces each, terrestrial sacred feline fading so fast, A shadow haunted dream they will become legends passed from grandparent to child whispered behind the work camp fence, handed down myths of beasts barely imagined like dinosaurs and gods of the past from when the World was wild..

Tiger,Losing you..It's like losing my soul,To see you vanish, the pain so bad, I long to go with you..

The polar bear great master of the ice, white furred ,wonder The mighty snow bear falls off of the ice and out of this place..

Black footed Ferret of Adorable face,Killed by poison by our selfish race.

Red wolf of mighty noble hunter pack ,flaming of fur, hunted down by greedy ranchers and shot like a common cur..

Peter Gabriel - Animal Nation Lyrics

I didn't meet you in the jungle
Swinging from a tree
I sat down at the piano
You were playing with me
I couldn't believe all the things you could do
The apes I've seen were in the zoo

They say we are unique with this language that we speak But you have proved them wrong
Skinner and Chomsky, how could they be so blind
With evidence this strong?
Intelligent life is all around us
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/2983045.stm
When you watch King Kong or The Planet of the Apes Upon your video screen
When the animals die, tears fill your eye
And you question what you've seen
Intelligent life is all around us
Hey, bonobo woman
Hey, bonobo man
Look in your eyes
That's where I come from
Hey, bonobo woman
Hey, bonobo man
Talk to me now
I am listening

You can search the internet
You can use your video phone
To call another friend
If we gave you all the tools
You can do whatever you want
Who knows when this will end
Intelligent life is all around us

Hey, bonobo woman
Hey, bonobo man
Look in your eyes
That's where I come from
Hey, bonobo woman
Hey, bonobo man
Talk to me now
I am listening
Hey, bonobo woman
Hey, bonobo man
Look in your eyes
That's where we come from
Hey, bonobo woman
Hey, bonobo man
Talk to us now
We are listening
Bonobo calling me now

Starting to hear the things you've said
Getting to know what's going on in your head
There's no humans on the line
But there'll be plenty more there in good time
Dolphins, cats, and elephants
This is not some wild romance
Just look in their eyes and say it's not true
Look in their eyes, they're checking out you

************************************************

There are 1,072 endangered and threatened species in the world. The list includes:
342 species of mammals, such as the red wolf, the right whale and the mountain gorilla.
273 species of birds, such as the California condor, the whooping crane and the northern spotted owl.
126 species of fish, such as coho salmon
115 species of reptiles, such as the green sea turtle
Most species that are actually endangered aren't on the list. Scientists estimate that 100 species go extinct every day! That's about one species every 15 minutes.
It's such a massive Animal Genocide,it's Ecocide.
Which of our animal brothers or sisters will be gone forever in the next 15? They will NEVER come back..

The Lorax.A banned book...Comes to mind..
Spurred by greed, the Once-ler invited all his relatives to town where they started a huge Thneed-making business, chopping down Truffula Trees left and right, much to the Lorax's distress. The skies gradually got darker and more polluted, forcing the Lorax to send the Bar-ba-loots, the swans, and the fish off in search of a better place to live. The Once-ler, while upset to see the animals go, dismissed the Lorax's pleadings until the final Truffula Tree got chopped down, leaving the Once-ler and the Lorax with a failed business in a desolate place under a dark smoggy sky. With a "sad backward glance," the Lorax picked himself up by the "seat of the pants" and floated away through a hole in the smog. At the end of the story, the Once-ler reveals that he has one last Truffula seed, and he instructs the boy to start a new forest so that "the Lorax and all of his friends may come back."

Oh,How I wish The Lorax's promise was kept by humanity! But we failed, we have no more seeds to make the animals lost come back because the world has been bought, and sold..too long we have gone along,as the animal nations die..
soon it will be our turn.

Now it's growing so late..and not enough people care, Earth is dying..it's not better,It's NOT.

1. they are all masterpieces
and nothing we create compares. They are aware of their own greatness. It is the humans who don't live up to our abilities to appreciate and care. They hunt doves in Wisconsin, even though it is the state bird. The mourning dove is highly evolved among birds. I saw a mother and its young one. She was taking it out for a lesson. You could see a lot of relating between them. I am going to do some more artwork on the animals, with ideas from the ancient Bestiary.

Our priorities are screwed up for sure. Hunting tradition - what bullshit.

7. Well said. So many are going...the horned toad among them...
I keep thinking of the movie, Soylent Green.

Or, darker...a science fiction story. I don't
recall the name or the author.

It seems a single human was the hereditary
supervisor of the one zoo on Earth. Enormous
pressure was brought to bear on him to kill
the animals, thus freeing up space for a few
more humans.

He finally succumbs, and kills the animals as
well as himself. Perhaps the most haunting
lines were at the end, when the animals in the
zoo were mentioned - a few mice, some cats and
dogs, and some rats. That was all there were.

Perhaps not a story, but rather a tragic prophecy.

13. Thanks for the link!
Years ago - more than I want to admit - I would
sit in my sandbox, and the occassional lizard
would get drafted as the dinosaur.

I was always very careful not to hurt them, of course.

They are a a fond memory. When I hear of their
dwindling numbers, a little part of me dies too.

And there were turtles too...big red ants...

Memory is a wonderful thing. But sometimes painful.

17. One of my favorite movies
Edited on Mon Aug-21-06 09:39 PM by Greylyn58
is Silent Running.

Sometime in the future all the forests on Earth have been destroyed. The last forests are transported in giant greenhouses aboard space ships near the planet Saturn. Freeman Lowell, crew member of the space vessel Valley Forge, is an outsider and the only one who cares about what is left of our planet's nature. When orders reach their vessel to destroy the forests, he goes mad. He kills off the other crew members and starts a lonely odyssey...

It is a scary movie to ponder. Imagine all the plants and animals finally gathered together in one place...no longer on the Earth for us to enjoy. Finally the corporation that owns them decides keeping them is too expensive and orders that they be destroyed.

If we keep going, killing off the plants and animals of this planet, we may find ourselves facing such a future.

15. When the sport of "hunting" ceases to be tolerated
and all other types of blood sports become illegal, then we may be able to make a start at ending animal extinction.

Aren't we humans supposed to be the caretakers of all god's creatures great and small?

Terrorists are not only people who kill innocents.

Terrorists are those who hunt whales for "scientific" reasons.
Terrorists are those who torture bears, so they will "dance"
Terrorists are those who skin alive dogs and cats so they can make imitation dogs and cats

I could go on and on. It makes my heart bleed to see such injustices caused on defenseless creatures

21. no hunting, no animals -- it's pretty simple
the only reason we have any habitat at all is because of outcry from the hunters, the fishers, the outdoor folks

when there is no more hunting, and there are billions of hungry mouths, then the wilderness will be utterly destroyed and transformed into dead fields of soy where even a butterfly cannot live

millions of species down to the tiniest insect species will be extinct, forget about any tigers

it is hard to respect the intelligence of people who claim they want to save species and yet deliberately set out to alienate hunters, the one voting bloc of people who have actually had real and serious success at saving habitat from the marching morons

22. This is true
But obscene culls are over the top, like what happened to the buffalo herds that roamed the plains.Like what happened to passenger pigeons killed off so rich ladies could have hat feathers. Only a human would be that fucking vain.

My basic rule is if you kill it, you eat it and do not waste it,unless it was attacking YOU personally than you gotta do what you gotta do.
Canned hunts are not hunting,Killing off endangered species for mounts is not hunting.
I bagged my first deer with a bow at age 12.
I ate it.He lasted a year..I mounted his beautiful head, antlers held high in his memory, I tanned the hide and sinews and made clothes with it,I made sculptures and beads from the bones, I left the entrails out for other animals to eat after field dressing. I was taught to RESPECT what I killed from my father and to honor it and if needed kill it by hand if my arrow did not kill it fast enough. My ass would be grass if I failed to respect the gift the deer gave me.
And...alot of people misunderstand the prey predator relationship.
They do not understand the balance.

27. Predator /prey relationships ?
Many states will kill off the wolves who are the natural predators of elk and such, in order to give the hunters more elk to kill. Some states also raises penned pheasants and then set them free in hunting season for the hunters to go out and kill them. How are those natural predator/prey relations?

You could try teaching children about loving animals. The hunters surely try to teach children about hunting at a young age.

Edited on Tue Aug-22-06 12:51 PM by undergroundpanther
Cheetah/Gazelle types of prey predator relationships here.

Humans are omnivores. I myself cannot be a vegetarian my body cannot take it. My sister is one and she suffers for it,She's got nerve damage. People eat meat I think factory farms are evil.and obscene and as disgusting as the slaughters called hunts people do.

But a human who kills 1 deer and uses it all year is not the same thing as a "blood sport hunter". We are omnivores some of us due to various reasons cannot eat the same way without hurting ourselves. People need to exist and be healthy, and do it IN BALANCE with the Animal Nations.

Animals hunt each other, you cannot eliminate killing in a world that balances itself through death. However you can stop senseless greedy bloodsport death( like war and bloodsport hunting) and abuse and mistreatment that leads to the type of psychopathy in culture that leads to sick predatory profit driven murder behavior that throws nature out of balance..

Doctor told her so now she takes a shit-load of medicines and vitamins to make up for it Costs her some bucks. As for me I got it worse than her I'm like my father...And my doctor who is an endocrinologist from India who IS vegetarian herself and a hindu, has told me to NOT go vegetarian because I cannot process certain foods without certain enzymes found in meat or I will get bad deficiencies.I can't process soy protein at all. Not everyone can eat beans and get the protein out of them my body does not like beans.
Very few types I can eat,the rest cause me pain and than in 5 minutes they race out the other end unprocessed.Just like dairy does for me without lactaid.

Some people CANNOT do Vegetarian. It's true.
The Dali Lama eats fish..why? Health reasons.
Don't be so smug.
It annoys me to no end when true believer vegetarians who know NOTHING about certain body conditions think like frigging absolutists and claim everyone MUST or can or should eat like they do or they are impure or something....that snotty elitist attitude I have seen in the self promoting type of self righteous vegetarian is well disgustingly smug. 34. Oh and critter
This snot veggie post of yours was not addressing MY post about BALANCE.

Death is what keeps a limited planet from destruction. Humans don't die like nature would have them so we have overrun nature and there are too many of us we have gone past the planets carrying capacity . Nature is a bloody monster Nature makes things die for it's stupid fucking balance.Tigers need to eat just like deer and I do .Predators exist for a REASON. Without them this planet would be defoilated faster than we have done it.We are partial predators,we got out of balance.Because we are too good at what we do hunt gather hoard, dominate. Success in survival is not a part of balance ,and so our success will be our ruin as a species because unlike the darwinists who don't get it,BALANCE is the issue not being the most efficient survivor, and dominating it all.

And to maintain balance on this limited planet some die and get eaten.I didn't make the world this way.I hate it tho.But not eating meat is not going to fix anything it won't make nature less bloody. The balance is so out of whack the whole planet is dying. The time for being a vegetarian as if that will change the imbalance is over.
Might I suggest cannibalism, doesn't kill any furry critters.. ?(sarcasm but maybe not you decide)

Learn something..about balance...

37. My goodness
That was a bit over the top. What makes you think I don't know about balance? Because I'm a vegetarian? What?

Actually, not eating meat will fix a lot of things. The kind of farming necessary for intensive meat production uses far more fossil fuels, creates far more pollution, and strips far more land than farming vegetation.

But you justify cruelty to animals (yes, meat production is cruel, and yes, if you eat meat, you're responsible) any way that helps you function.

So you love animals. They taste like chicken. Comprendo.

39. Check this...

Most vegetarians I know are not primarily motivated by nutrition. Although they argue strenuously for the health benefits of a vegetarian diet, many see good health as a reward for the purity and virtue of a vegetarian diet, or as an added bonus. In my experience, a far more potent motivator among vegetarians—ranging from idealistic college students, to social and environmental activists, to adherents of Eastern spiritual traditions like Buddhism and Yoga—is the moral or ethical case for not eating meat.

25. Hard to respect the intelligence of people
who hold up hunters as the saviors of wildlife. If people who cared about wildlife and wild areas were actually making the policy, then animals would be in much better hands. Hunters pay fees to hunt, and this money source drives the government policy on animals. The natural areas that hunters hunt on, were either donated by someone or bought by the government. We are the government, not just hunters. People who value land and animals for themselves will grow in political power and shut down this murdering of animals "tradition".

My family comes from hunting tradition also, so I have first hand knowledge of hunting and what goes on.

TIGER, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies 5
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart? 10
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp 15
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee? 20

Tiger, tiger, burning bright

What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

42. What people don't understand is that we are killing off species and
ourselves as well. What makes animals extinct makes our lives worse to. Over crowding. Pollution. Hunting and poaching. I think the problem has some roots in the religions that teach that man is above the animals and that God put animals on earth for our benefit. I believe we share the space with animals and we have no right killing them for our benefit. Call me crazy.

45. I disagree on part.
Yet the idea humans are superior is sickening disgusting LIE. However lions kill bacteria kill We walk on grass bugs die. Death is part of what balances life and allows it to exist. Some humans cannot be vegetarian despite what dietary purist religionists think.Death is not wrong it is the torture the abuse the exploitation of nature and animals for PROFIT that is wrong.

Mankind has eaten meat before civilization,as do chimps and plenty of other animals including chickens. Every animal has it's own way of eating .Just because an animal is closely related to us it does not mean we can thrive on a diet of another species. You know about the Vegetarian believers who put a cat on a veggie diet? The cats died.. THAT is abuse in the name of religion and for some vegetarians their diet is a neurotic religion. And I frankly am tired of dietary purists and their religion that does not apply to me ..Just because one person can be ok going VEG does not mean we all can or should. And this convert the world to vegetarianism is a kind of fundamentalism because fundies wanna convert the world too and I am sick of all of it..

and NOT being vegetarian has nothing to do with my feelings of appreciation and respect for animals,The love of animals and dietary habits are apples and oranges to mix the two with a smug tone is dishonest and the kind of manipulative crap done by religions to bully people. One can love animals and still admit they are omnivores and eat animals. Look, lions eat gazelles and they do not hate animals because they eat some gazelles.A lioness tried to raise an abandoned baby gazelle and it died because it did not get proper nutrients from lions milk..Fancy that.Yeah lions hate gazelles because they hunt and eat them. That's the vegetarians logic here.

I weep for them and for the children. So much lost; so much wasted.

46. The waste is what makes it so evil.
The waste in the name of profit.
