what do the wingnuts do when we're all still here on aug. 23?
wil rush, drudge, beck and the rest issue retractions for passing along this nonsensical iranian doomsday scenario? or will they simply move on to wednesday's liberal-bashing and pretend they never said anything?

i think we know the answer.

it reminds me of two days before Y2K, religious wingnut broadcaster jack van impe was running computer animation of how the soviet nukes would launch themselves and we would all die. i tuned in the next week to see how he tried to explain the earth still existing, but he didn't mention any of it and was already running killer asteroid stories for 2001

4. Something in the Koran that says Aug 22nd is the day Mohammed
rose to the mountain or some such. Basically, a doomsday, revelations type of scenario. So the President of Iran said something to the effect that he'd give his answer on 8/22 and everyone assumes it's because of the symbolism involved with the Koran. Make any sense?

7. Here's a better description of the 8/22 hysteria.
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/08/21/iran-apocalypse

August 22 is a day “some Shiite sects believe…could correspond to the end of the world.” That’s enough for neoconservatives to conclude Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad may have “chosen to launch the apocalypse” tomorrow.

Edited on Mon Aug-21-06 04:49 PM by sable302
In greek, the word means to uncover/unveil, like the groom takes the veil off his bride at the end of a wedding. Thus all the bride/bridegroom imagry in the book of the 'apoclypse' (that is, the 'Revelation') in the bible.

on edit: Maybe he's just going to 'unveil' his answer, and the nutjobs are getting all worked up as usual. For me, ....I'll just......yawn....

6. it's a holy day in islam
and because iran's president said he would give his answer to the UN negotiators' package on aug. 22, some rightwing nutjobs assume it means that he's going to nuke everyone as his 'answer'

it's stupid, but it's turning up even in the 'legitimate' media now, too

32. Actually it's not true
Obviously Jesus couldn't have read the New Testament, as it hadn't been written yet. But even at the age of 12, His knowledge of the Scriptures was enough to impress the rabbis in the Jerusalem temple. So Jesus had read whatever part of "The Bible" existed at the time.

44. Actually it is true he never "read" it
Since it was mostly passed on by oral tradition in those days.
He may have memorized it, or it may have been a gift from God, but it is very possible he was illiterate, as we understand the word.

45. Of course it is true -
The only writtings of Jesus before the scriptures, before 30 years of his age, is not in the new testament. I may not be a great Catholic, but even I know that.

The bible, the new testament, was culled from many writtings more than a hundred years after his death. I do believe his knowledge extended much further than the old testament though.

And there sure isn't anything about 8/22/2006.

Joe

10. hilarious freeper predictions
Edited on Mon Aug-21-06 05:13 PM by Adenoid_Hynkel
like something straight out of the mouth of the great Criswell:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1687209/posts
He offers 17 of these, which is a good thing as his timetable for #1 expired 3 1/2/ hours ago

"Here are my predictions for August 22 (actually August 21).

I’ve analyzed over 10,000 articles and a list of books since 9/11. Here is my analysis, listed as predictions, as of 1 AM PT 8/21. I don’t reference all my sources in the interest of space.

1. Terrorists will probably attack Israel with WMD on 8/21 or 8/22. Most likely time is on 8/21 between 9 AM and 2 PM US Pacific Time. This time corresponds to the Islamic religious holiday of the night of Rajab 27, which begins at sunset local time (ie around 9 AM PT US). The terrorists/Iran would want the Muslim world to be awake to witness the news, so I would guess around 11 AM US PT is the highest risk (ie 9 PM local time—around 90 mins after sunset).

2. I believe Jerusalem will be attacked with a nuclear bomb. See WSJ, “August 22”, etc. This night is important for all Muslims, Shi’ite and Sunni, for somewhat different reasons. The attack may come from short-range missiles fired in a flurry (hard to defend against) from Syria, Iran, Lebanon, or sea, etc., or from a ground-based/pre-positioned terrorist.

3. Terrorists may strike major US cities near-simultaneously with Israel. Or they may wait for a pretext, see more below."

35. Guess Mr Freeper was wrong.....
It's now about 3:40 PM Pacific time, and as far as I know, Iran hasn't launched a nuke (that they couldn't possibly have for another 10 years) into Israel.

It's entirely possible that the Bush Crime Family might stage a terra-ist attack and find a way to blame it on Iran. But everyone knows by now that these bastards never unveil the "new product" before Labor Day.

18. I remember the Van Impe run-up to YK2.
For at least six months he and his lovely wife Rexella kept us apprised of all the indications worldwide that the second coming of Christ was just around the corner. I often wondered how he was going to back out of it when the big moment came and nothing happened. That was his answer: to do nothing. Business as usual. These people, after all, aren't really concerned with credibility.

December 21, 2012. I think a few peoples (including Nostradamus) have that date.

The thing that gets to me about that date is the Hopis had the same date.

So, maybe there is something to that. I always did like the Hopis.
