It's time to play dirty with the truth--re Sen. Allen
(Note to all: This post contains harsh, racist language. For that I apologize before using it.)

In the Top 10 for this week is the report of Virginia's Senator Allen calling his opponent's African-American videographer "Macaca" and telling him "welcome to America" even though the videographer was born in Virginia.

Pussyfootin' around time has come to an end, DUers.

"Macaca" is French for "nigger."

Would it be completely out of line to take out a double-truck ad in Virginia's largest newspaper the day before the election, print a photo of the videographer's face full-bleed across both pages, and knock out of it the sentence "George Allen called this man a nigger" in 288-point type? Below it we'll run an explanation of Allen's offense.

The Republicans would do it to us in a heartbeat.

1. I don't think there's a newspaper in America that would print it
And they would be justified in refusing, imo. The "N" word is strictly taboo. With good reason.

4. And yet they'll print macaca which, as pointed out, is the French "nigger"
Nope, sorry, they would NOT be justified in refusing.

2. I agree - IMHO it's way past time to start playing dirty with the truth
Gore should have done it in 2000, especially during the recount process (after running scared of the Clinton 'bad boy' image), and we did it as a party during the 2002 midterms....Kerry broke my heart with his 'let's not offend anyone' ladies campaign treatment and now we have a chance in 06...

Oh, yeah, I totally agree....the dirtier the better....drastic measures for drastic times!

3. Sidarth is Indian-American,
not African American.

6. I'm Black,
so believe me I haven't missed the point. The OP referred to the videographer as African-American, which is incorrect. That's all.

7. Sorry, my eyes missed that part, but my point stands. The word isn't...
...limited to Africans. Mr. Allen grew up with a fluent French-speaking mother. Don't think for one second he didn't know what he was saying...

8. I thought he was, sorry
This still doesn't change the fact that George Allen called him a nigger in public, and his constituents need to be made aware of this.

9. It is Macaque, if spelled correctly
From Dr. Jeffery Feldman on Frameshop:
snip>
The term 'macaque'--also pronounced 'mukakkah'--is a commonly used racial slur on par with the word 'nigger' in the united states.

In Europe, the word 'macaque' is largely a racial slur used to insult people of North African descent. It is roughly synonomous with 'dirty arab.'

Most of the results that came back in these searches took me to well known white supremacy websites--and to posts from the past two or three years. So this is a phrase that is still in use.

Also returned where hundreds of 'ethnic slur' dictionaries online, all of which list this term as a 'Belgian' racial slur.
