New source of energy
I haven't seen this here as yet. Interesting if true.

If true, how long do these people have to live?

From the website:
Steorn’s technology produces free, clean and constant energy. This provides a significant range of benefits, from the convenience of never having to refuel your car or recharge your mobile phone, to a genuine solution to the need for zero emission energy production.

5. There was at least one other thread on it here at DU
And it broke down along the usual dogmatic lines involving Newton, Thermodynamics, and the like.

I can be amusing to watch a scientific food fight from the sidelines

2. Wow that's neat.
I can't tell if they really buy it or if it's some sort of satire site.

3. MisoWeaver, I saw something on this earlier today...

Scientists flock to test 'free energy' discovery

David Smith
Sunday August 20, 2006The Observer

A man who claims to have developed a free energy technology which could power everything from mobile phones to cars has received more than 400 applications from scientists to test it.Sean McCarthy says that no one was more sceptical than he when Steorn, his small hi-tech firm in Dublin, hit upon a way of generating clean, free and constant energy from the interaction of magnetic fields. 'It wasn't so much a Eureka moment as a get-back-in-there-and-check-your-instruments moment, although in far more colourful language,' said McCarthy. But when he attempted to share his findings, he says, scientists either put the phone down on him or refused to endorse him publicly in case they damaged their academic reputations. So last week he took out a full-page advert in the Economist magazine, challenging the scientific community to examine his technology.

McCarthy claims it provides five times the amount of energy a mobile phone battery generates for the same size, and does not have to be recharged. Within 36 hours of his advert appearing he had been contacted by 420 scientists in Europe, America and Australia, and a further 4,606 people had registered to receive the results.

6. Their "Technology" link is a marketing statement... nuff said.
If they want more than 30 seconds of my time they are going to have to provide some details about which "Laws of Physics" their technology addresses and exactly how they "think" they are bending them....

7. Their "technology" violates a fundamental Law of Physics
Edited on Mon Aug-21-06 08:49 PM by berni_mccoy
They will not find 10 of the "most qualified, most skeptical" physicists to validate their findings if that is one assumption they have to break.

8. Must Be B.S.: Check out how they react to critics:
An article was released today slandering the noble efforts of our friends here at Steorn by an Assoc/Prof Martin Sevior BSc(Hons) Ph.D (Melb) FAIP at the School of Physics at Melbourne University in Australia. Here is the email address of the person:(SNIP)

A person in this type of position should know to keep their mouth shut but apparently not. Everyone be sure and send them some mail and/or phone calls and let him know what you think.

I'm not sure if this person actually works there, but no one that does work there came out to defend the Professor's right to criticize.
