Pat Buchanan: Still a xenophobic/racist piece of crap.
Just heard Thom Hartmann (replacing Randi Rhodes today) play a clip of Buchanan from Imus's show this morning.

Buchanan was ranting about the "Mexican Plan" to "take back" seven southwestern states.

The fact that Buchanan is not in a straight jacket is because we live in an insane world. Beyond being a first class prick, he has a long history of racism. He spent much of his public life as a Hitler apologist and I guess he realized, as Southerner's say, "That dog won't hunt."

A few years ago, he wanted to build a wall across the U.S./Mexican border. (No wall necessary across the Canadian border. They're white.)

Long before most of today's wingnut media pundits and rw radio haters came along, Buchanan was peddling his racist views. That this man still has a public voice on TV is a disgrace. He was a Nixon speech writer/henchman whose 15 minutes should have been up long ago. But I guess hatred will always sell well.

2. Nope. I missed them. Guess I'm lucky.
But no matter how hard you try, you can't turn a piece of shit into a silk purse. (Did I get that analogy right?)

3. It's mostly foreign policy DUers agree with Buchanan
On other things, people disagree with him, especially when it comes to racism.

Whose War?

A neoconservative clique seeks to ensnare our country in a series of wars that are not in America’s interest.

by Patrick J. Buchanan

The War Party may have gotten its war. But it has also gotten something it did not bargain for. Its membership lists and associations have been exposed and its motives challenged. In a rare moment in U.S. journalism, Tim Russert put this question directly to Richard Perle: “Can you assure American viewers ... that we’re in this situation against Saddam Hussein and his removal for American security interests? And what would be the link in terms of Israel?”

7. That Pat Buchanan is a xenophobic/racist piece of crap.
Edited on Mon Aug-21-06 04:08 PM by Cyrano
On edit: I'm not attacking your statement. I'm only saying that it isn't an issue that applies to Buchanan's basic philosophy and positions on many issues that most decent people find despicable.

Yes, I know he was against Iraq. But I'll bet his reasons for doing so don't match with yours and mine.
