A big "Thank You" to all of our donors and subscribers!

Our third quarter 2006 fund drive was a big success. We reached our fund drive goal on Saturday morning, well ahead of our deadline. Thank you so much to everyone who donated during the fund drive. And thank you to our monthly subscribers and to everyone else who has donated in the three months since the previous fund drive.

If you donated during the fund drive, or if you are a subscriber, there should be a little bit of red text on each of your posts indicating that you gave during the fund drive. We're going to leave those up on the site for a few days to recognize all of you, and to make sure the people who donated by mail get some recognition as well.

Now that the fund drive is over, we have removed the fundraising graphic from the top of all the pages. In its place you are probably seeing advertisements at the top of each page. If you are a DU donor, please be aware that you have the option to turn off these ads so you don't have to look at them. Just click on "Options" then "Edit your preferences" and scroll to the bottom of the page.

To those of you who requested bumper stickers, we're going to try to get the thank you notes out to you sometime in the next two weeks. If you don't have a sticker by September 4, please let us know.

15. Nature of DU Fund-Raising

Interesting how DU handled fund-raising drive. As I understand the thermometer screentop graphic, the fundraising goal was denominated in donors, not dollars. In other words, DU's goal was given as number of contributors (with the amount of donations irrelevant). I never saw an overall dollar target.

<SARCASM>This is entirely unfair to billionaires, industry lobbyists, and foreign intelligence agencies!</SARCASM>

Anyway, I was happy to give, since I still have a job.

I hope you DU folks have a disaster recovery plan in place. (However you define Internet disaster; I would include martial law or DU-directed denial-of-service assaults.)

21. Hey! I tried to donate last night using my VISA and kept getting thrown

into PayPal which kept asking me "over and over and over" to resubmit all my info. I kept retyping the info...all was correct and finally gave up. I did send an "alert" to you guys saying I had a problem...but so far I've not had a reply as a PM telling me why my VISA donation wouldn't go through.

As you know ...I've been here a long time and have donated without any problem having to "alert" the Admins.

I'd like to give my yearly contribution...so should I just "TRY AGAIN" even though I spent over a half an hour and kept having my info rejected?

Still hoping to hear from Admins about why I can't get my "Credit Card" donation accepted by DU...as a long time member with no troubles before.

could give even more. DU is helping America get back on it's feet, to rid us of the fascists. We all know we are "not" alone because of DU. DU has done a lot of good over the years since the coup. First - A BIG THANK YOU!

Second, and I don't mean to sound like a WATB, but I think that the red link that says "I donated to the third quarter fund drive!" makes the rest of us look like freeloaders even if we have a star next to our name. I know you don't think that, but it's an impression I get.

Some may have sent a donation either right before (like me) or after the drive, and some DU'ers may not have been able to send any money because, well, they're flat broke, or tapped out because of donations given to candidates for the midterms.

So, I'm thinking that if you want to single out DU'ers who were able to donate at the right time (and I agree recognition is important), IMHO it would be less in-your-face if you changed the recognition to a small icon with mouseover.

Having said that, so glad you're here for us. You've made these difficult years bearable.
