How many New York Times Bestseller Lists are there?
Edited on Mon Aug-21-06 02:40 PM by Uncle Joe
I have read on the internet "An Inconvenient Truth" is #1 on the list, however looking at yesterday's Gannett Corporation owned Tennessean's section of the paper titled New York Times Bestseller Lists, it's not in the top ten. So I have to ask again is there more than one New York Times Bestseller lists?

When I go to the Publix grocery store here in Nashville, they have three spaces with Coulter's Mein Kampf wanna be book and none of An Inconvenient Truth. Kroger's grocery store has Coulter's book at #13 and offering a 25% discount. It's like they don't want to sell Al's Gore book! I wonder if these grocery stores are trying to dumb the people down?

1. There are three: fiction, nonfiction, and children's.
Make sure the list your paper carries is the nonfiction one. Also, it's recalculated weekly, so it's possible that your paper had a different week than the one you saw referred to.

3. I have looked at both fiction and non fiction lists
in yesterday's Tennessean with the heading New York Times Bestseller lists. It was a few days ago, I read Truth had hit #1, but I also read it was in the top ten over a week ago and it still was not listed in the Tennessean under either category.

6. Thanks for the list NYCGirl
I believe this must be what it is. The Tennessean makes no distinction between paperback and hardback, they must be hardback listings only.

5. Here are all of this week's lists

http://www.nytimes.com/pages/books/bestseller/index.html

There are seven in all:
HARDCOVER FICTION
HARDCOVER NONFICTION
HARDCOVER ADVICE

CHILDREN'S BOOKS

PAPERBACK FICTION
PAPERBACK NONFICTION
PAPERBACK ADVICE

"An Inconvenient Truth" is at #1 on the Paperback NonFiction list; Ann Coulter's latest "Godless", is at #9 on the Hardcover NonFiction list.

Aside from the obvious profit motive, any discrepancy in attention paid to one list over the other is likely a local issue.

Oh, and just for fun, this just in from Amazon.com: Rank for Coulter's book: 110; Rank for Gore's book: 30. So clearly, "An Inconvenient Truth" is selling far better than Coulter's screed.
