And anyone who believes that whatever the bible tells you to do is moral and acceptable, regardless of the innate "morality" of the action is probably failing a test too.

Stoning people to death for being "witches" or having sex on their period or eating shrimp, that's a little weird.

Killing every man woman and child in a country because the land is promised or some deity is having a bad hair day - that's a failed moral test.

But to some people challenging authority is the only moral failure there can be. To them, it's not whether their deus irae is good, or bad or anything other than "powerful". It's about power and preference and being "chosen" and surviving petty tests of faith every time something apparently unfair happens to you.

There are clearly "good" people who really do use the parables of the bible to stimulate discussion and form a "moral plan" for themselves, who dismiss stoning and violence and arbitrary deific capriciousness. For me, I can't even get past the "sacrificed his only son" line, which is so bogglingly pagan and an oft=repeated line which nobody questions. Moreover, even that some deity would in one breath say we have "free will", yet Judas Iscariot was foreordained to be a traitor, to say we need honor someone who "died for our sins", when the sin I'm most guilty of is driving above the speed limit - certainly nothing worthy of torture and crucifixion.

I just wonder if the main thing that many biblically "moral" people miss is that they ARE being tested, right then and there, and the test isn't how well one clings to some notion of divinity but of how well one understands "morality" in the context of humanity on their own.

The rapturists are frightening. I don't think that the destruction of the world, and the "end times", nor the Revelations view in it's particulars represent the kind of god or deity I would have any respect for and call myself "moral" in the same breath.
