Down the memory hole
I'm noticing that some news stories that would have dragged on for months a few years back, now seem to be vanishing from the press within weeks of breaking.

For instance, Ann Coulter's commission of felony vote fraud in Florida. It was supposed to go to court a month after occurring, yet there's been no word of a resolution. Anyone know what happened?

And how about Harry Whittington, the Austin lawyer who was blessed with Dick Cheney's buckshot...is he still alive? I remember something about a heart attack occurring from one of those pellets while he was in the hospital. But he's vanished from the news, and I wouldn't have remembered him at all but for We're Sorry, Dick.

I pretty much expect the Manson Family-style gangbang and murder of the Iraqi family by U.S. troops to go the same way, although it's still simmering a bit in local papers.

Can you think of any other Bush League crime stories that have vanished almost immediately within the past six months?

1. The elections are getting close.
The media admittedly does this during a national campaign season. Remember 04? Even CNN admitted that they didn't want to air anything too "controversial".

2. No - of course not. Only Howard Dean doing the scream every 10
minutes on every station across the world.

Right - "controversial" translates to damaging to the republican media owners in power.

3. My point earlier about Coulter --She Gets A Free Pass From Press
You just could not juxtapose the positions between Dems and Repubs and have a Democratic Coulter type get the kind of "free pass" from press scrutiny that Coulter enjoys today.

Coulter needs to be very careful. Where the justice system fails to carry out its duties as an integral part of our nation of laws, people who are harmed become frustrated and sometimes take matters into their own hands. I fear we are headed in that direction as these Coulter type rightwing hate promoters become even more bold in their pronouncements.

The Coulter case could not be any clearer. Either she committed voter fraud or she falsely claimed a homestead tax exemption she was not entitled to receive. It is either one or the other. Failure to take action against her lowers respect for the rule of law and its institutions.

4. How About The Second Wave of Abu Garaib (sp?) Photos?
Edited on Mon Aug-21-06 08:45 AM by ThomWV
Those, which were to be made public by court order last fall, have never made it to the public eye. What happened to them, where was that story?

Memory hole.

Black hole

Hole?

It is not a hole!

This information has been secreted away from we the people. It has not fallen into some hole, it is hidden behind lock and key. This is deception by omission. This is tyranny.

5. There's another one
At this point, I wonder if releasing the documentation on the children being raped in front of their parents in Abu Ghraib will even make much of a difference. The meme has been out there on the knowledgable liberal side for ages, losing its power over time, and it was even "reported" in the major outlets like the NYT and the Washington Post, albeit spectacularly underplayed. Will there still be an impact?
