Crying about Katrina again...I always will....happy anniversary....
I feel the toxicity; like a wierd nightmare. The sense of impending doom. The reality of total abandonment.

I relive the moments in the city; on that guy's boat; the smell of death. The witness of the dead. I didn't want to witness their deaths, or did I? No, I'm sure I never wanted to experience that. Not here.

THIRD WORLD.

Death. Disease. Doom.

Bodies in the water. Not on the news. Standing there; trying not to look weak.

Feeling weak. Alone. Wondering if my mom was okay...not knowing.

Hardship.

In a land of plenty.

I feel it on the eve of this wicked anniversary.

Hot. No power. What do I tell my seven year old?

"Where are the police?"

"What is that gun for?"

"Will be be alright?"

I feel the toxicity.

The world moved on.

We haven't.

I feel the toxicity.

Pissed off. Just taking a moment from rebuilding our world and being pissed off.

Where were you?

Where are you?

Have we been forgotten?

Priorities....

Shame.

A hangover that won't go away....

2. Katrina and Iraq should be the battle cry for the 2006 elections
Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 10:41 PM by MadMaddie
These two events should be at the forefront of every Dems list....

The Gulf Coast is still suffering and all citizens are suffering....

"* lied and People died" say it again and say it loud...

When Spike Lee's special comes out next month about Katrina....the Repugs are not going to be able to answer why after a year they have done nothing but waste money on right wing contractors who weren't even from the South....

The verse is haunting.....thank you for sharing....

12. Damn straight! What you said, MadMaddie!
We need to remind EVERY numbnuts knee-jerk freeper who screeches "9/11!!!! 9/11!!!! 9/11 changed EVERYTHING!!!!" at us - that "Katrina CHANGED IT BACK!!!!" Shut 'em up, and shut 'em down. There is NO WAY they can talk their way around the shameful, disgraceful "handling" of Hurricane Katrina's aftermath by this bunch. NO WAY. There's nothing they can do to hide from it, nothing they can do to excuse it away, nothing they can do to blame it on somebody else. This hangs securely around bush's neck. Because "Brownie" wouldn't be there if not for him. Chertoff wouldn't be there if not for him. He approved both of them and they served at his pleasure. They were there because he either put them there or approved their placement. And they were taking their marching orders and their priorities and their urgency from him. The fish rots from the head, as the saying goes. This is bush's failure. Just as the war is bush's failure. September 11th is bush's failure. AND that of the republi-CONS who've been in command in Congress even longer than he has. THEY are steering this ship, THEY are in command, THEY are calling the shots, and look where we are?!

"9/11 changed everything, you say?" Well, KATRINA CHANGED IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!

15. We all owe a debt to the Gulf Coast.
We all need to mind what happened around Katrina.

Even from this other coast, we feel the outrage and we swear, once and for all, this will not stand. We will never allow this malfeasance to go unchallenged.

Not ever. Not on my bald headed granny's head. No way.

Anyone who thinks that this will just go away doesn't know us very well.
