Has "History Channel" become nothing but Jesus Central?

...but hardly anything about modern day Egypt.

I saw something about Nasser and the Suez Canal once, but other than that...:shrug:

Not 'round the clock, mind you, but their "Ten Days That Unexpectedly Changed America" was a treat, and I have enjoyed their multi-part series on the American Revolution.

12. The History Channel is kinda wierd in some ways....

As if they are eternally searching for their identity. They can't really seem to the grasp the concept of variety being more entertaining than focusing almost completely on a single theme.

So for a while, we get lots of religion stuff. Then they get bored and move on to their next theme du jour. Could be Military advances, could be ancient civilizations, or anything.

I'll be the first to admit I'm looking for edutainment on the History Channel. But that quirkiness of their theme obsession makes it a completely worthless channel to me.

But I think that has a lot to do with the poplularity of "The Da Vinci Code". Eventually they'll go back to more hitler-related things :)

I watch the channel quite a bit though, and they do still have some good stuff on. I've been watching the series on the American Revolution that they've been running this summer, which has been pretty good.

It is all about WWII; Hitler, Hitler Youth, Rommel, Patton, Hitler, Rommel, Mengele, Patton, etc. I was wondering if it the WWII Channel.

the Hitler History Channel is the worst in that regard.

I have noticed that History International, Discovery, Discovery/Times, National Geographic, and A&E all have really stepped up the programming relating to various religious topics. Even the Science Channel will have a religion-related show on from time to time (Science of the Bible).

About the only channel of that genre that doesn't offer religion-related shows (as of yet) is Animal Planet.

I have no doubt it's on the way, though. Meerkat Manor on the Mount, anyone?

Discovery still seems good, at least when I see it. History okay, but too many gun shows and Modern Marvels, seem like ads for big industry. But A&E is the biggest disapointment: Dog The Bounty Hunter, Inked, Cold Case Files, Flip This House, etc. These are not the kind of shows that I would call art, but maybe entertainment. The problem with these channels is that the conservatives cite them as alternatives to public broadcasting. Nobody runs the kind of programming that public does.

Perhaps I was a little too hasty in praising Discovery. Today I got home from work, read a little , cooked supper, cleaned up, then took the dog on a long walk, got home, turned the TV on. Discovery had Biker Build Off. Okay then, maybe A&E...Driven(about a family of car racers), History then... No thanks, a Jebus program, okay I'll try The Learning Channel... Miami Ink... about tatoos.

Even PBS had a somewhat lame program about the car that was used in a Grace Kelly/Cary Grant movie(To Catch A Thief).

Haven't watched the right-trending History Channel in years. When I went to pick up lunch, it was on the tv, talking about oil and its applications throughout history.

In passing, they mention - as if this were established historical fact, and not a myth that may indeed never have happened and has pretty much no evidence supporting it - that NOAH USED IT ON THE ARK.

Many of the "religious" shows look at archaeology, history & legend. And they often reach conclusions that would displease Fundamentalists. Let's not forget that War & Religion are popular subjects. That was true long before TV.
