George Allen Played a Confederate General
Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 05:33 PM by liberalpragmatist
From the 2003 flick "Gods and Generals," there's a cameo of Allen as a confederate general or officer singing "Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern Rights Hurrah!"

ON EDIT - Less odiously, Ted Turner also features.

Allen can't get 'macaca' off his back
Internet users won't allow Va. senator's remarks at rally to quietly slip away

BY TYLER WHITLEY AND PETER HARDIN
TIMES-DISPATCH STAFF WRITERS Aug 20, 2006

Standing next to U.S. Sen. George Allen on Wednesday at a rally to boost his re-election chances, fellow Sen. John McCain told a monkey joke.

That's how it went last week for Allen, who sparked a firestorm by twice calling a young volunteer of Asian Indian descent working for his opponent, Democrat Jim Webb, "macaca."

The word can mean a genus of monkeys and is a racial insult in some circles. Allen also said to S.R. Sidarth, a 20-year-old born and raised in Fairfax County: "Welcome to America and the real world of Virginia."

4. Let me get this straight....
Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 05:48 PM by Hailtothechimp
A SITTING U.S. Senator, who is not and never has been an actor (at least professionally) puts on the uniform (with a fake mustache, to boot) of a group that actually TOOK UP ARMS against the U.S.A?

This should be picked up far and wide. It's just unthinkable that this man thinks he can be president one day.

Here's an alternate link if anyone wants one:

6. For Crying out loud
This is just reaching. He was acting out a role. I suppose you have never done shit like that. Let it go. Quite frankly, I find your post to be ridiculous. No offense to you, but just because a guy played a confederate general doesn't make him a bad guy. There is enough out there to prove Allen is a bad guy. This isn't it.

7. I'm not sure I agree.
He is not an actor. He is a senator who over the years has made excuses for his racist past. Playing a confederate general was not a wise decision IMO.

9. Don't agree. If he didn't have a proven track record of racism I
would agree with you. Re-enactors are very common here in VA.

He is a racist, through and through and given any opportunity to tweak us with that information thrills him. He is a sociopath.

10. I just find it humorous, given the situation he finds himself in
I mean, here's a guy who constantly has to deny racism or sympathy for the Confederacy. Of course, he denies it. Though this cameo doesn't make him a racist, it is appropriate.

11. He wasn't the only one, though
Senator Byrd was also in the film, as was Phil Gramm, Dana Rohrabacher, and probably others.
