First order of business when Democrats retake Congress:
National voting system reform outlawing all methods which do not employ recountable, auditable paper ballots. Every other issue in our Republic depends upon the legitimacy of the citizen's vote.

Other priorities:

Federal law to protect whistleblowers from prosecution and harrassment where they divulge criminal political activities.

More?

Even though it wouldn't apply to cable news, right wing hate radio would be crippled, and that's a damn fine start.

32. That's not a priority for me
I like turning on Air America radio and knowing that there will be a liberal host on the air.

We should focus on building up own own media, not trying to bring back an outdated law.

5. National Audit Initiative:
A new American job & training program that pays for itself; The American Audit and Recovery Initiative!

It pays for itself with recovered stolen money, taxes, interest, fines, awarded damages etc. as it uncovers and brings to justice all the THEFT this Republican Administration and their cohorts have perpetrated in the US and Iraq.

Here's an off-the-cuff staffing list:

Accountants, from clerks to CPAS,

Data entry & document clerks to sort, file, scan, label, index, bates stamp, retrieve, redact, etc. etc. etc. zillions of docs.

Warehouse/moving storage staff for all that paper, disks, etc.

Security staff to assist in document retrieval.

Attorneys. Lots of them.

Paralegals, ditto.

PROGRAMMERS! Thousands! On deadlines! Hallelujah.

A/V techs to record testimony, investigation interviews, etc.

IS tech support (to untangle the internets tubes)

What have I forgotten?

This program would employ & train THOUSANDS of Americans for jobs that fit virtually every expertise, education and skill level. It will more than pay for itself, buoy employment & the general economy, give America justice, and recover money we can use to retire a portion of the Republican Debt.

What's not to love?

10. Ban growing pharmaceuticals in plants used for food, such as corn,
Gentically-modified crops contaminate other crops.

In the case of GM crops used to produce pharmaceuticals, this is more dangerous.

If companies want to grow pharmaceuticals in plants, they should be restrticted to plants people don't eat. Not corn.

22. Forget hangings. Seppuku is the only way
I know that Seppuku was thought of as an honorable method of execution, but it also forces the person committing it to take an active part in his demise.

Hanging? No good.
Shooting? Unless the person being shot does it himself, still no good.
Lethal injection? There have been some seppuku-like lethal injections--several junkies asked for and received permission to insert their own needles because they knew exactly where the veins were--but in general, they strap you to a table and stick you with two needles, you fall asleep and you don't wake up. Not very engaging.

I think they should lead Bush into the White House Rose Garden, hand him a tanto and ask him to kneel and disembowel himself with it. He's caused enough pain to the world, he needs to feel some of his own.
