Candidate rigs vote in Senate race

By PETER GUINTA
Posted: Sunday, August 20, 2006 ; Updated: 6:32 AM on Sunday, August 20, 2006

Two campaign workers for Randall Terry, Republican challenger for the District 8 state Senate seat, entered the Sept. 5 primary race as write-ins, effectively closing that race to thousands of non-Republican voters. <snip>

Terry acknowledged that narrowing the race to his own party was his strategy and said he drove volunteers Marsha L. Morrison of St. Augustine, and Joseph Ellyson of Jacksonville, to the Supervisor of Elections Office.<snip>

Terry found it amusing that if he won on Sept. 5, that would place him in the odd position of running against his own campaign worker in the general election.

"One would presume that the write-in candidate would not beat the candidate," he said.<snip>

2. Ya think? I often wonder what it is that makes these people such
shameless assholes. Genetic defect? Poor upbringing? Extra X chromosome? Ignorance? Or just being a republican?

4. In all honesty it sounds like
Democrats are at least partly at fault here for not having a candidate. I should also mention that many here had cows over the open primary in Georgia which helped cause McKinney to lose. Either open primaries are good or they aren't.

10. Well, perhaps we would have a Dem candidate if there were any
Dems left in the area.

When I first moved to the First Coast, everyone was a Democrat. The Dems often ran unopposed by the Repubs.

Then during the eighties, there was a huge influx of Republicans to the area which pretty much drowned the Dems out. Many who were life-long Dems swithed to the Republican party either because they liked Reagan, because they bought the garbage which made a pejorative out of the word "liberal," or because the Dem party leaders were some of the ones who switched to the Republican party and the Dem party system fell apart.

The whole scenario was flipped onto its back. Now, Republicans often run unopposed and the Dems are left out in the cold. Those who do run rarely get a look-in in an any election. The Pubs have way more money and have managed to marginalize anyone who runs a Dem.

I expect things will eventually change again, but don't want to predict when.

One way the Republicans gian memeber is by this same tactic. In a race for County Commissioner this year, we were going to have an open primary because the only two running were both Republican. Then less than a week before the deadline, a Libertarian decided to run as a write-in candidate. Result: Those Dems who really, really wanted to vote against the incumbant switched from Dem to Pub...

The same thing happened in 2004 at the last minute, a candidate filed in order to close another primary in the sheriff's race with similar results.

9. He's been in Ponte Vedra Beach (BIG money area) on the beach
in a huge, very expensive home on very expensive real estate for about two and a half or three years now.

Get this: the guy who disowned two of his children is running on family values! His first auto-dial recorded phone solicitation started out with a baby gurgle and then Terry calling out, "It's a boy!" and talking about his four children and how he upholds "family values."

People are angry around here (Republicans, Dems, and other parties alike) with Terry for the constant calls. One Republican neighbor e-mailed them to stop because it was so annoying and got a reply back, literally: "To bad, so sadd."

I'm hoping that his incredible arrogance does him in.

Even Jebbie Bush doesn't like him and has endorsed Jim King, who occasionally tells Jebbie to put it in a place that gets very little sunshine.

8. Randall Terrorist has once again openly committed treason.
Lock the bastard up for life.

"I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over you. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good ... if a Christian voted for Clinton, he sinned against God. It's that simple. Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a biblical duty, we are called by God to conquer this country..."

Yet he uses our hard-won democratic system to gain access to the levers of power with the ultimate goal of overthrowing democracy. That's what he is up to and that is what REALLY chaps my ass!! :grr::mad::argh:

Sorry POS! He's gaming the system with the vilest of intentions.
