“Had we not done this, I really think we would have been overtaken by the Democrats,” said party chairman Matt Salmon.

<snip>

Who knows, maybe the national GOP will do the same. How hard would it be for the Ken Mehlmans of the world to spin "Democracy Dollars," or some other Luntzian creation?

1. That's really sad
That they have to stoop so low. This would be good in the political musical I'm writing!

2. I think they are paying those doing the registrations
(workers) the $10 per new registration - not the people who are registering. The jerk they hired to do the work (his company) was involved in all sorts of ugly shennanigans back in 2004. Nathan Sproul is a foul figure.

3. if they are actually paying the voters, perhaps all the dems should sign
up as repukes--after all, they do not yet have total control of the voting booths. bankrupt the little bastards.

4. Your article does not say that the REGISTRANTS are being paid,
if I read it correctly. It says that the organizations are paid 10 bux for each person they register. Different thing.

Not to say I'd be surprised if the GOP paid the voters to actually VOTE GOP.

7. Right but the post and blog entry title seem to imply the VOTERS
themselves are paid.

11. If you read the article
you will find that Sproul...the guy who tore up all the Democratic registrations in Oregon... is the one getting paid. However, there is no control for others or Sproul to offer say $5.00 to register. No matter who is paid, this stinks.

9. I didn't think they were THAT desperate.
Usually, they think of politics as a pay-to-play game with the money flowing the OTHER way.

13. People want money. I am not surprised by this.
Maybe the Dems ought to do the same thing as the Repubs are and see what happens.
