Code Pink in Austin for Karl Rove!!
Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 09:37 AM by proud2Blib
There were 70 of us who caravaned down there from Camp Casey. We met up with about 40 or 50 folks from Austin and we invaded the fancy hotel where Rove was speaking. The management was a bit concerned and not too welcoming, so several in our group rented rooms. Then we were spread all over the hotel.:)

It was an atrium lobby that was surrounded on 4 sides by balconies. There was also a glass elevator. A couple of us rode up and down in the elevator with our signs held up to the glass. A large group went in to the restaurant in the lobby and placed their signs in convenient spots. And many others just hung out in the lobby holding signs or wearing IMPEACH BUSH t-shirts. I went up on the balcony and the scene in that lobby was marvelous! We all hung out there for an hour or so, as the repukelicans arrived and mingled in the lobby.

Then this:

The cheer was deafening!

Right after that, the pink police stormed the lobby with Cindy in the lead, holding a warrant for Karl Rove's arrest. We got in line behind them and stood at the door of the banquet room where Turd Blossom was speaking and chanted "CITIZEN's ARREST"

I have more pics and will post them eventually. Just wanted DUers to see this awesome banner!

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Chanting ''Try Rove for treason,'' Cindy Sheehan and more than 50 other war protesters disrupted a reception before President Bush's top adviser Karl Rove spoke at a fundraiser Saturday.
One woman was arrested during a scuffle with police after Sheehan and the anti-war demonstrators rushed toward the closed doors and kept chanting loudly after the guests went into the dinner.

Earlier, wearing shorts and T-shirts while guests of the lobby reception walked past in sequined dresses and expensive suits, anti-war demonstrators carried American flags and signs, including one that read ''Check your conscience.'' A few protesters unfurled a large banner from a sixth-floor hotel balcony that read ''Rove v. Truth: No Contest. Pink slip Rove.''

Earlier Saturday, the group of more than 70 gathered at the hotel entrance, carrying a large banner that read, ''Rove: Guilty of crimes against humanity.'' Ann Wright, a former U.S. diplomat who resigned in 2003 in protest over the war, yelled through a bullhorn, ''Karl Rove, you are a criminal!''

There was also a USA Today reporter. There is a great article in today's Austin paper and 10 pictures. And someone here just said MSNBC and CNN covered us.

Diane Wilson was at camp yesterday morning but I didn't see her in Austin at the hotel. Of course, that doesn't mean she wasn't there. There were a ton of us.

Sheehan's Rally Disrupts Rove Reception
Cindy Sheehan, supporters stage demonstration at reception before Rove speaks at fundraiser

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 20, 2006
By ANGELA K. BROWN Associated Press Writer

(AP)

Chanting "Try Rove for treason," Cindy Sheehan and more than 50 other war protesters disrupted
a reception before President Bush's top adviser Karl Rove spoke at a fundraiser Saturday.

One woman was arrested during a scuffle with police after Sheehan and the anti-war demonstrators
rushed toward the closed doors and kept chanting loudly after the guests went into the dinner.

Rove was speaking to the Associated Republicans of Texas,
and ticket prices started at $200.
He was not in the Renaissance Hotel lobby during the reception.

"I want him arrested. He planned the war that killed my son,"
Sheehan told officers guarding the door.
Sheehan's oldest son Casey was killed in Iraq in 2004.

Police then ordered the group to leave, but some protesters had paid for rooms
for the night. Those protesters went upstairs, including Sheehan.

Earlier, wearing shorts and T-shirts while guests of the lobby reception walked
past in sequined dresses and expensive suits, anti-war demonstrators carried
American flags and signs, including one that read "Check your conscience."
A few protesters unfurled a large banner from a sixth-floor hotel balcony
that read, "Rove v. Truth: No Contest. Pink slip Rove."

Those at the reception sipped their drinks and largely ignored the protesters
before they started chanting. One man looked at the group and said, "Go Bush!"

Earlier Saturday, the group of more than 70 gathered at the hotel entrance,
carrying a large banner that read, "Rove: Guilty of crimes against humanity."
Ann Wright, a former U.S. diplomat who resigned in 2003 in protest over the war,
yelled through a bullhorn, "Karl Rove, you are a criminal!"
