Are you, or is this an idea driven by the media? It's not like we have a choice either way; the media deems it a newsworthy story ad nauseum. Personally, the less I hear about Ramsey and who killed her, the better. Will they wipe the egg off their face when it's proven this guy had nothing to do with it?

1. The nation is not obsessed. Only the media. Cheap news.

8. This is why I hate 24 hr news
It's a local crime story. Thats it. We have 300 million people in the US I'm sure there is a horrific sensationalist story about one person every day. If I don't personally know the family I really don't care.

I heard there are some wars going on overseas and some social problems here at home plus an upcoming election. Maybe the news channels should cover the actual news. (I hate Faux news as much as the next guy but is it me or do those docs on MS NBC seem to belong more on Maury Povich or some digital cable Pedophilia channel)

2. I'm watching CNN Reliable Sources
talking about media saturation of stories like Natalie Holloway, JonBenet, etc.
Doubt it'll change anything, but I was a bit shocked that they're discussing it.
Now talking about how the Middle East is being pushed out of the news by JonBenet Ramsey and how news media follows the ratings.

6. That sounds great, more so because they're admitting
they're culpable!

3. It's like reading a pulp murder/mystery only you save $4.95
I couldn't care less about the whole stupid scenario, other than the terrible death of that little girl.

4. In the same week, I read a bit on Salon about teenage pregnancy
65 out of 1300 girls in a Canton, OH school district turned up pregnant after receiving abstinence only sex ed. The school system is planning to revise the curriculum to include info. about contraception now, while still emphasiznig abstinence.

Of course, the lives of the 65 girls, their babies, and their families are changed forever. And this is the the sort of thing that has the potential to affect every family in the country. But, hey, what's that compared to the 10 year old murder of a petite beauty queen?

5. Wow, Once again the media confuse their own obsessions
with those of the public. It's actually a manifestation of their delusions of significance. They implicitly think that if they fill the airwaves & cables with something that the public mirrors their madness.

You've sized it up completely. The maddening part is that there seems to be no existing way to impact or confront them with the reality you've just stated. Other than constant email and letter writing campaigns of little probable real effect, mass boycotts of sponsoring advertisers, or finally just turning the droning blather they shovel out day after day completely off and supporting alternative news outlets like Link and FSTV, which exist on satellite-- but I don't know about cable. Economic hurt of their bottom line-- advertising profit-- is the only tool that could ever have a hope of creating change, but no such mass movements to reject the status quo exist. That's the depressing reality.
