With Katrina gone, Pontchartrain remained
squatting in the city, too slowly drained
And New Orleans wondered if anyone cared,
If levees or anything would be repaired -
Spin docs agreed, speculation must stop -
Jackson Square would do for a photo-op.
The Shrub declared, “I will do what it takes,
Where there’d been one, you’ll have a thousand lakes,
Pockets of water, all over your town,
Shallow enough - except for those who drown,
And I’m told there’s no reason why they should,
Unless they’re livin’ down there in the hood,
‘Cuz them we know just don’t do what is right
They never did learn to tell black from white -
But digression aside, shallow enough
For me to stand here and look Texas tough,
Stand beneath Old Hickory, and his horse
And say, who could have known, without remorse
Foe lies and failures - Hey, I’m not to blame
I had cake to eat, it’s part of the game
For me to look grave, determined and bold,
Or like I just got a whiff of your mold.
Don’t worry, though,we’ll get the work done quick -
Of course it’s the fault of Willie the Slick,
He may know how to keep his levees dry,
But he can’t inhale or keep himself high.
Well I got to go, Dick Cheney’s calling
Something about a goat, or the sky, is falling.”
Well, it’s been a year, not much has been done,
But we knew ol’ Shrub was just having fun,
When he gave us his word, promised us aid,
Since when has he kept a promise he made?
He waved as he left, explaining his decree:
“It’s not about you, but profits, you see.
Those who don’t have, that’s why they’re called poor,
Who thought they’d voted Kerry or Gore,
They’re sinners and should be drowned in a flood -
Ya think Noah had some Mississippi mud? -
So pick up your garbage, pieces of trash,
While Halliburton takes all of your cash.
The louder you scream that there’s been some fraud,
The more I take it you approve and applaud.
Don’t complain like Frogman you ain’t got a home,
Y’all got that thing there, that superdome.”
