KATRINA PROTEST - SEND A BOTTLE OF WATER TO BUSH
WATERING THE BUSHES:

A Grassroots Protest Remembering the Government's Negligence Following Hurricane Katrina

This evening, in Covington, Louisiana, local activists met to develop a simple strategy by which we might remind the White House of its dismal failure during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It was decided that a simple gesture would be most effective. Accordingly, we will each mail a single bottle of drinking water to:

President George Bush

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW

Washington, DC 20500

It has also been agreed amongst us that the return mail address will be as follows:

Ernest N. Morial Convention Center

900 Convention Center Boulevard

New Orleans, LA 70130

All are invited to join us in this peaceful exercise in dissent.

Peace soon and...

ONWARD!

31. People, this is a great symbol and a good idea but you forget one thing.

BUSH DOES NOT GIVE A FLYING BFD ABOUT ANYTHING OUTSIDE HIS BUBBLE.

NOTHING PENETRATES THE BUBBLE UNLESS HE ALLOWS IT TO DO SO.

HE IS UTTERLY INCAPABLE OF 'GETTING THE MESSAGE'; TO HIM, THERE IS NO MESSAGE TO BE RECEIVING.

HE IS INCAPABLE OF CARING ABOUT ANYONE OR ANYTHING EXCEPT HIMSELF AND HIS AGENDA.

Over and over, we forget and make the mistake of thinking we are dealing with a RATIONAL HUMAN BEING here. We aren't. He isn't.

Of course, if this mass mailing got PUBLICIZED, not only would a lot of people wish to jump on the bandwagon, but they would 'get the message'...and remember.

Get the publicity, that's the ticket.
Jes' sayin. It's a good idea, really.

42. i would be concerned about that also -- plus a question
Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 04:59 PM by pitohui
i like the suggestion of sending an empty bottle of water better

too many died of dehydration, "they didn't survive the rescue"

an empty bottle cannot be construed as a threat, but only a couple weeks after 8/10, while bottled waters are still being seized from pax on planes, the full bottle of clear liquid may well be viewed as a threat

i would support the empty bottle option if others are going to participate

also my post office is not going to allow me to put another address as my return address, are they going to allow that in covington? when a bottle has been successfully mailed, someone could say what post office is allowing this

49. i'm thinking an empty bottle has a second advantage
if the plan is for all to use the convention center address as the return address, you can mail a light package with stamps without discussing it with a clerk who might object to your use of a return address not your own

a package weighing more than 16 ounces can't be mailed using stamps w.out presenting in person to the postal clerk

people who have their own postal meters, it's moot, but for people who usually ship w. stamps then there's that

anyway that's how i'm leaning at the moment

Please help us water the bushes for the anniversary of Katrina.

Please send a bottle of water to:
President George Bush
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW

Put your return address as:
Ernest N. Morial Convention Center
900 Convention Center Boulevard

Maybe he will get the message.

It's the message.
Empty water bottles would be cheaper postage.
I'm going to send lots of filled bottles of water.
It's a sacrifice, but that is the direct action I have chosen.
I like the empty bottle message, as well.
With this President, a lot of similar messages may be needed to get even a single point across.

send an empty bottle. More symbolic that way. Cheaper and no "bomb threat" propaganda opportunity.

Great idea to mark the anniversary of the biggest LIHOP in US history.

Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 02:24 AM by Evoman
And its not like hes gonna get any of his mail, anyways. His staff will probably just drink the water, and then laugh at you.

A way better option is to drink the water, then send him the bottle...filled with..ahem...recycled water, if you get my drift. Sure its probably illegal, and sure you will probably get arrested...but anything worth doing thats going to have an effect is probably illegal.

On edit: you could send him pictures of the katrina dead, or dying...along with those great pictures of him eating cake.

19. It's a risk I'm willing to take
Don't really care about his laughing staff. And I doubt he'll drink anything that I send to him.
It's a simple message and it doesn't cost a lot.
If I could afford to deliver it to his door, I would.
I wish he could have done the same for me and my neighbors.

Its cheaper, more shocking, and you don't have to adversely affect the environment.

On second thought, condoms are pretty expensive...hmmmm.
