It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Social Welfare, although Healthcare and Education are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 56%, and even higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Book Publishing.

Crime is totally unknown. 82much's national animal is the praying mantis, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the norki.

The Imperial Corporate Republic of Neo-Industria is a massive, economically powerful nation, notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 7.53 billion are ruled with an iron fist by the corrupt, dictatorship government, which oppresses anyone who isn't on the board of a Fortune 500 company. Large corporations tend to be above the law, and use their financial clout to gain ever-increasing government benefits at the expense of the poor and unemployed.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Defence, although Law & Order and Commerce are secondary priorities. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Uranium Mining and Arms Manufacturing.

Citizens must pay to enjoy Neo-Industria's pristine beaches, inheritance tax has recently been abolished, ethnic minorities are often refused admission to some of the nation's best schools, and the nation's drinking water tends to glow green at night. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling. Neo-Industria's national animal is the corpse, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Stock.

Neo-Industria is ranked 1st in the region and 7th in the world for Largest Automobile Manufacturing Sector.

If you want excellent health care, public education, mass transit, strong labor protections, and strong environmental protections, the money has to come from somewhere, and taxes have been the general avenue to pay for those. France, Germany, Sweden, etc. have tax rates comparable to your nation.

The left/right scale isn't used in NationStates. Because it's one-dimensional, it's not a very accurate way of measuring your politics. NationStates has three main scales: personal, economic, and political. In each case, you can be authoritarian (moral, or restrictive) or libertarian (liberal, or laissez-faire). For example, someone with left-wing politics might want high levels of personal freedom (e.g. no drug laws, gay rights), low levels of economic freedom (e.g. taxes, welfare), and average levels of political freedom (e.g. compulsory voting at elections). A libertarian might prefer high levels of freedom on all scales. An authoritarian might want the opposite.

10. I played for a few months, but the program is very stilted to the right

and there is little variety. I got my nation up to 2 billion with a very liberal government (in the traditional sense) but if you don't crack the whip and become some form of police state you can't create a good stable economy and your tax rates are always insanely high. It just got boring, always the same issues over and over with very limited options for how to deal with them, so you end up ignoring them. I doubt it is still there but it was called Chien Rouge (see avatar)
