Bush has spied on Democrats and political opponents ?
Or maybe that should read:
Bush has spied on Democrats and political opponents !!!!!

In your gut, you know he has. Nobody seems to want to broach the subject.

All this crap about listening and spying on al Qaeda calling into this country is simply that: crap.

Watching the would-be dictator walk away angrily from his news conference yesterday, with about 10 or 12 of his closest advisers following close behind, one could imagine the closest advisers of Hitler following him into his bunker. And they think they will never be caught?

They are spying on everyone. Illegally. No doubt, they have their dossiers on all the jellyfish press also. Those that read the lines from the White House and protect their sources so valiantly are themselves unwitting victims. Yet they continue to defend this White House at every turn.

2. I tend to think there's widespread economic espionage happening as well.
Inside information regarding bidding, stock sales, contract selections, etc. can be obtained by wiretaps and email snooping..and can make certain people incredibly rich, and/or give competitors unfair and overwhelming advantage..thereby making certain people incredibly rich.

4. That's been going on for a long time.
Remember after the fall of the USSR bush sr changed the focus of the spy agencies to economic issues- industrial espionage.

3. To assume they aren't is dangerous. We should push the
Democratic party to become security conscious. Everything should be encrypted, all paper securely shredded, good security at headquarters is essential. Simple things like not having the computer screens visible from the window, should be done.

28. even that will cost money and hinder the ease of communication
which is not as good for Republicans as actually getting to spy on us, but still is good for them.

But, you are absolutely right. I wish all candidates would act in such a manner as though they were being spied on.

and make very public statements that they are doing so

this Criminal Cabal engaged in.

They obviously don't care about the the USA's security... they care about the 'US' security.

10. Prescott taught Nixon who taught Poppy who taught Junior.
They are ALL crooks using the power of the presidency to gain power, profit and priviledge.

Thom Hartmann does a nice job spelling things out:

Reclaiming The Issues: "Why Is Bush Spying On Democrats?!?"

COMMENTARY by THOM HARTMANN

What's been entirely lost in the discussion about Bush administration spying is why so much of what Bush is doing is illegal.Every time Democrats and progressives speak out about George W. Bush's spying on Americans without mentioning that he may also be spying on Democrats, they're playing into Karl Rove's "National Security Frame" and actually strengthening Republican electoral chances in November.

To short-circuit this, Democrats need to invoke the ghost of Richard Nixon.

If they don't, even Pete Hoekstra's new revelations that there are even more as-yet-unreported secret spying programs that Bush has been hiding from Congress will be used by Rove to say to average voters, "See? We're really looking out for you!"

SNIP...

And that takes us back to Richard Nixon, the last Republican to have an active domestic spying program without judicial or bipartisan congressional oversight. The one whose Bush-like abuses led to the FISA and other, similar laws.

Nixon said he was spying on Americans to keep us safe from communists. We were in the middle of a war, after all. The Soviets were out to get us (and armed with real weapons of mass destruction), and the North Vietnamese weren't far behind. He had to spy on Americans, he said, to protect the liberties of Americans.

14. 1st Bush Did It During '92 Campaign
Recall that, during the Presidential campaign of 1992, when it was clear that Clinton was going to be the nominee, it was discovered that then-President George Bush (Senior) had used Clinton's mother's Internal Revenue Service documents, to try to dig up dirt on Clinton or Clinton's family. An outrage at the time, but typical for the Bush family, which has many times used Government departments or "private" documents for their own personal use, to persecute others, etc., although that is supposed to be illegal. I remember when it was exposed that Bush was going over Clinton's mother's IRS file--disgusting--but all these years later, hanging around with them, having a great old time as one big happy family of rich people, Clinton seems to have no pride at all.

Opponents? Of course.

Let's add businesses that do not support RepubliCONs: their families, their friends, of course their business deals and associated businesses.

Think your life is an open book? How about your bosses life? Or, any the people from whom your money is made. Or, how about any group holding your pension money.

They will do anything to win. They told us this when they told everyone that we would be the ones to do anything to win.

If there's a terrorist on the line OF COURSE FISA is going to grant a warrant. By sidestepping the warrant process they are obviously spying on political opponents and others who have NO connection to terrorism. It drives me crazy when pundits and politicians ignore this important point!

they can and no one would have any idea. I think it should be assumed they are or else why is going to the FISA court such a big God Damn deal? I hope to hell they are wire-tapping Al Queda. I just want them to get a warrant so we can be confident that is all they are doing.

30. Rationale: ANYTHING that helps the "right" people stay in power
is of national security importance and is good for America. Therefore, it is entirely justified...regardless of legality, there is a higher obligation to keep America out of the hands of those who don't get it.

You bet..they are doing what it takes. Whatever it takes. And we probably can't even imagine the extent to which they are actually going to further their goals.
