I still don't see why LIEberman even ran in the primary, or how he got away with what he did.

1. I'm not quite sure I follow what you're saying...
As much as I despise LIE-berman, are you saying there should be a law prohibiting a candidate who loses in a primary from running as an independent? Doesn't sound very democratic (no pun intended) to me.

Imagine if the shoe were on the other foot. Suppose a progressive Democratic senator lost a primary to an openly conservative Democrat. Would it be okay for the progressive to then run as an independent?

2. I See Your Point
I just wish there was a way around those issues, but I'm not smart enough to know what that would be.

3. There's a way
Support Lamont. If you live in CT, vote for him, and get everyone you know to vote for him.

If for some ungodly reason, LIE-berman does manage to win back his seat, he's going to be a pariah. No Democrat's going to want to touch him. There's already talk of stripping him of his seniority, and he'll probably lose his spot on whatever committees he sits on.

4. I can see a lot of DUers have never seen a NY State ballot.

At least when I lived there, various state parties could endorse a national candidate and run his/her name on THEIR party line. Thus, a candidate's name could occur on several party lines. It preserved the "ancient" notion of political parties as organizations of citizens who'd select and endorse that candidate, even running on their own, who best met their criteria. It wasn't unusual to see a candidate on the Democratic line and the Conservative line. (Times have changed.)

6. Does something like this even need to be addressed?

You run an a Dem primary, or Repuke primary, and lose, hit the road. Your ass lost!

LIEberman can't have his cake and eat it too. That's "undemocratic".

7. There are states with "sore loser" laws.

Google it.

I think they're a good idea personally. What is the point in having a primary if people don't agree to abide by its results?
