Pundits Renounce The President
Among Conservative Voices, Discord
For 10 minutes, the talk show host grilled his guests about whether "George Bush's mental weakness is damaging America's credibility at home and abroad." For 10 minutes, the caption across the bottom of the television screen read, "IS BUSH AN 'IDIOT'?"

But the host was no liberal media elitist. It was Joe Scarborough, a former Republican congressman turned MSNBC political pundit. And his answer to the captioned question was hardly "no." While other presidents have been called stupid, Scarborough said: "I think George Bush is in a league by himself. I don't think he has the intellectual depth as these other people."

These have been tough days politically for President Bush, what with his popularity numbers mired in the 30s and Republican candidates distancing themselves as elections near. He can no longer even rely as much on once-friendly voices in the conservative media to stand by his side, as some columnists and television commentators lose faith in his leadership and lose heart in the war in Iraq.

While most conservative media figures have not abandoned Bush, influential opinion-makers increasingly have raised questions, expressed doubts or attacked the president outright, particularly on foreign policy, on which he has long enjoyed their strongest support. In some cases, they have complained that Bush has drifted away from their shared principles; in other cases, they think it is the implementation that has fallen short. In most instances, Iraq figures prominently.

4. They're trying to blame it all on Bush to make way for the next candidate
Bush is a lame duck. The Republicans would love the country to blame Bush - and Bush alone - for everything that went wrong during his administration.

That way they can convince people to vote Republican again. Don't let them get away with this. The entire GOP is corrupt and criminal and incompetent.

13. Conservative ideology is the most to blame.
And the way * sticks to it so dogmatically. He is not one to adapt to new realities on the ground. instead, he merely pronounces something else to be true, and then expects it to be so.

So it's the ideology plus the stubborn bullheadedness of the chimp--and the way he screens out dissenting opinions.

People are waking up and realizing that the chimperor has no brain--but that isn't their only problem. Without him they are still lacking ideas that actually work.

16. ABSOLUTELY!!!!
NEVER mention "Bush*" without appending "& The Republicans"

BAD: Bush is an idiot.
GOOD: Bush AND the Republicans are idiots

BAD: Bush* lied us into a WAR.
GOOD: Bush* AND The Republicans lied us into a War.

Get the idea?

The Democratic Party is a BIG TENT, but there is NO ROOM for those
who advance the agenda of THE RICH (Corporate Owners) at the EXPENSE of LABOR and the POOR.

17. Well said, yardwork...
he's only the very visible frontman for a profoundly corrupt system--straddling both sides of the fence.
Whether Repub or Dem, every last one of the war enablers must be exposed & punished for their criminal negligence over the last 6 years. SG

5. Katrina was a real eye opener for Joe.
Joe Scarborough supported Bush during his first term, but seems to have soured on him ever since Bush neglected the American Gulf after Katrina.

Joe is off the Kool Aid, but still takes a swig or two when no one is looking.
In other words, he is still a Republican, sometimes he even bashes Democrats, but he is no longer a blind supporter of Bush and sometimes Joe even thinks for himself and sees that the Bush of his Kool Aid days is just an illusion created with smoke and mirrors.

10. erosion! drip, drip, drip

Good post. I want to think that the "pundits" listed still carry weight among some percent of the red voters. Even a small percentage shift will help tilt results in '06 and '08.

12. I never thought bush was the brains behind this operation
More just a figurehead, some one they could trust to go along with anything the committee decided they wanted to do.
And it would have worked too if only there policies were not so flawed and ambitious.
Bush will now have to be the fall guy, but it will not matter so much to him as long as he can still have a drink now and again.

15. The Repubs need distance from Bush if they're going to retain
control. You can only manipulate elections so much without everyone knowing they're fixed. You can smell the fear on them.

Why else this rush to up the terror alerts? Why else would they be fawning over Lieberman?
