I knew he was a helicopter pilot during the Viet Nam era and took too much for granted.

After doing a little Google assisted research (which I obviously should have done beforehand) I found the error of my ways. Thank you for pointing that out.

7. I took it to mean

a reference to the Scott/Lacy Peterson story. The title of the video is 'In the News'and all the news was talking about was this sad event and not the consequences of going to war at the time. If it was discussed with the same intensity the misleading facts would have turned the country against going in the first place.
