Poll question: Which are you more afraid of? Please respond over the next 72 hours.
Edited on Sat Aug-19-06 10:42 AM by HypnoToad
Just a poll. Think nothing of it. I am curious to see the general concensus.

Be 100% honest. I am not out to target anybody and I will vote for choice #2.

Edited grammatical content.

1. Not even close
I can't believe the people in Omaha who try to tell me Omaha is the #3 target in the USA. I don't know whether to laugh in their face or cry at their stupidity.

17. yes, but...
when is the last time you've seen the word used like that? Maybe use a synonym to avoid confusion/distraction? Just a suggestion...

26. Go for it, hypnotoad!!
What I (personally) would stay clear of is defining words for people, mainly cuz they're more apt to retain the definition if they take the trouble to check it out on their own. Also, if someone wants to play off a word, encourage them--laugh at it, even if you're convinced they're needling you. But, hey, who cares. Go for "new" words, as there is absolutely no one "out there" who couldn't afford to enrich their vocabulary. Those who like words will love you for it; those who don't will be critical. The usual criticism will be that effective communication calls for a vocabulary most everyone can understand. In a way that's true; i.e., if almost every sentence contains a word which most people won't understand. But, otherwise, I vote that you go for it.

Oh, and by the way, I wasn't familiar with the word, "cupidity". Hmm, and I thought I had a pretty good vocabulary. Gee, thanks for disabusing me of that misguided notion.

Finally, I agree with 2 too.

So, you condescend to everyone who jokes about your choice of wording-assuming none of us is "educated" enough to understand the word? Hmmm.

5. Here's the context and reasoning for my inclusin of that word:
The people who tell us they are Christian (corporate and government) have been engaging in acts that Christ would clearly not approve of.

8. I refuse to live in constant fear.
Thanks to unfortunately being mangled by a drunk driver years ago Husband and I both were out of work for 3 years. I was out for 5 years. We went bankrupt. We lost everything but each other and our families. You know what. It wasn't that bad. It wasn't good, but it wasn't suicide material either. -- I know I can survive being bankrupt and paralyzed at the same time.

As for the terrorists. Why should I be afraid? Tossing hair gel at the airport ain't gonna cut it and I refuse to treat every other person around me as an enemy.

21. I've seen what evil Christianity has done to my family
Edited on Sat Aug-19-06 11:24 AM by Joe Bacon
I come from a family of Orthodox Jews; in 1980 they all voted for Carter. One by one they got infected with the ASSemblies of God, like the pods in Invasion of the Body Snatchers. In 1984, they were all (save one sane brother in law) infected with Jesus and solid Republicans. Now they are all into the so-called Prosperity Gospel, giving big chunks of money to liars like Robertson, Falwell, James Robison and the Crouches.

What is extremely depressing is seeing how my nephews and nieces are infected with Jesus. I ask them to try to go to college to better themselves, their answer "Why should I when Jesus is coming to rapture me in a week or 2"? You try to talk to them and all they recite are the latest points from Rush and Fox News. They consider me THE ENEMY because I will not worship a piece of red white and blue cloth. I tell them point blank that I REFUSE to whiff the spores spurted out by the preachers.

I look at the legacy of Christianity--yes, millions of Africans enslaved, Tasmanians and other races exterminated. Millions of innocent people persecuted and killed in the name of Jesus. Rich people who believe God predestined them to be wealthy, and idiots herded by fascists like Francis Scheaffer into following the real Christian "I got Mine and F YOU" teachings of Ayn (as in mine) Rand and Milton Friedman.

Christianity and intelligence are like oil and water. they don't mix. Anyone with an open mind can clearly see the evil of Christianity. I can't wait for the day when the lemmings eyes are finally opened and they realize Jesus has simply exploited them and they finally abandon the Christian brainwashing centers and leave them to rot.

22. Other: neither.
What happens, happens. Fear doesn't change anything. Fear enables the status quo, and often feeds the very thing we fear. While I recognize that there are dire possibilities out there, I don't live in fear. I just move forward, doing what is in my power to do and accepting the outcomes as they unfold.

23. I chose the second....
but religion, and corporations are not involved in my fear. I believe it is the invevitable outcome of the road this bus has been traveling. Fear, though I can not deny it, is countered by faith, that live goes on...anyway. It may not be the life I want but until it is no more it will be what it is.

27. I'm worried there aren't more choices!
I'm worried that there are too many people who worry about things.

I'm worried by people who impose time restrictions on polls.

I'm worried that I'm being asked to consider what I'm worried about.

I'm worried that I'm running out of Idiotic things to tie into the original questions.
