Bill Clinton smacks Holy Joe!
Just three weeks ago, former president Bill Clinton was in Connecticut campaigning for Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (Conn.) in the Democratic primary against Ned Lamont. But in an interview yesterday, Clinton gave Lieberman a vivid lesson in how life is different now that the senator has lost to Lamont and is running as an independent.

The former president slapped Lieberman over the latter's suggestion that he lost because party liberals wanted to purge a politician who shared Clinton's overall philosophy of being progressive on domestic issues while supporting a robust national security policy.

"If I were Joe, and I was running as an independent, that's what I'd say, too," Clinton told ABC's Good Morning America. "But that's not quite right. That is, there were almost no Democrats who agreed with his position, which was, 'I want to attack Iraq whether or not they have weapons of mass destruction.'"

1. The voice of reason among idiots... Oh, I long for the days of
the Clinton years. So many say now, he may have had a personal problem keeping his pants up, but at least he didn't screw the country. Many of these words now coming from republicans.

2. What is the exact quote Clinton uses It's something like "Vote your heart
in the Primaries, but get in line for the election." That's not quite right - anybody know the quote?

He is practicing what he preaches.

12. This is what he says...
One thing hasn't changed about Clinton, however. He can still charm a crowd. Quoting a unnamed woman friend of his, he said, " `In every presidential election, Democrats want to fall in love; Republicans just fall in line.' Now, folks, go ahead, I want to encourage you--go ahead--fall in love, be for somebody. But when the primary's over, let's fall in line and bring the White House back to our party!"

13. Thanks. I'm going to bookmark this. Too bad we can't send this to the
Sore Loser of CT. Not that he would read or heed it if we did.

14. I'd love to send that to him. I wonder if his campaign site is back up
If his campaign site is back up and they have a "contact us" feature, I will send this to him!

I've lost so much respect for him.

ON EDIT: I just checked and his website is back up, but there's not much on there. Just a way for you to contribute to the campaign (surprise, surprise).

Says they will be re-launching the full site soon.

5. I see something else there, too... maybe I'm wrong but
Seems that Bill says he would run by demeaning liberals if he lost a primary for the senate just lie the loser. Am I seeing a message that wasn't meant to be seen?

6. You confused me...
Are you saying you think Clinton's statement means that he would do as Joe is doing -- demean liberals just to win?

I don't think Bill Clinton would ever run as an Independent as Joe is doing. Maybe I am wrong, but I don't think Bill Clinton would put himself above the Democratic Party.

Joe is deluding himself with his arrogance. The Democrats of CT don't want him. He should just quit the race.

8. Well it struck me as odd...
in the OP:

"The former president slapped Lieberman over the latter's suggestion that he lost because party liberals wanted to purge a politician...

"If I were Joe, and I was running as an independent, that's what I'd say, too,"

It just struck me as sort of odd.

While Clinton dismissed Lieberman's statement as not correct, he also seems to accept Lieberman's rhetoric as something that he would use, too.

10. That's no different than the time
I said, "Geez, if I were going to rob that place I wouldn't have been so dumb as to try to climb through that hole in the roof and get stuck."

11. I Suppose...
Clinton, without thinking about it, admitted that he would use the most effective "spin" for the situation--even if it wasn't entirely correct... Politicians, I suppose, in some ways, are pragmatists--and willing to bend the truth (some, obviously, actually have a phobia about the truth and avoid it at every turn (examples? pretty much every Republican out there...)).

9. Addendum...
Clinton also added...

"His position is the Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld position, which was, 'Does it matter if they have weapons? None of this matters . . . This is a big, important priority, and 9/11 gives us the way of attacking and deposing Saddam,' " the former president added.

Clinton said that a vote for Lamont was not - as Lieberman implied - a vote against the country's security.
