PDA Promotes Election Integrity at DNC Meeting in ChicagoBy Michael Shelby
PDA Election Integrity Work Group activists from California, Arizona, Alabama, New York, and Massachusetts joined forces with the new DNC Voting Rights Institute Director, Greg Moore to bring each State Party Chair up to speed on election integrity. In a scheduled 90 minute presentation that ran over two hours, party chairs were presented with information from the DNC’s National Lawyers Council plan to provide election protection for the fall elections. The 888-DEM-VOTE National Hotline was demonstrated for the state chairs showing how each state, down to the precinct level, can report, track, and act on voter disenfranchisement and voting machine irregularities on a national level. Also presented to the chairs and other committee members and guests in a session closed to the press was the election protection plan for the Democratic Party. The Plan includes six basic steps for each state party to protect the voting rights of all voters, combating voter intimidation, the impact of photo ID on seniors, students, and minority communities, and preparing for a recount. The time and attention given to election integrity by this Democratic National Committee and Chairman Dean shows that they “Get It!” The DNC is telling all our grassroots Democrats, the progressives, and the election integrity activists that they have heard the message and are taking tangible steps to provide the necessary election protections that will assure total election integrity.
