Former Pentagon analyst sentenced to 12 years in prison!!!

A former Pentagon analyst who gave classified information to an Israeli diplomat and two members of a pro-Israel lobbying group was sentenced Friday to more than 12 years in prison.

Lawrence A. Franklin, 59, a policy analyst whose expertise included Iraq and Iran, pleaded guilty in October to three felony counts in exchange for having three other counts dropped.

In sentencing Franklin, U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III said the facts of the case led him to believe that Franklin was motivated primarily by a desire to help the United States, not hurt it.

The 12-year, 7-month sentence was on the low end of federal sentencing guidelines.

Franklin said at his plea hearing in October that he did not intend to harm the United States and that he was motivated by frustration with U.S. policy in the Middle East when he gave classified information to the diplomat and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

6. Let us hope not.
AIPAC has more corrupt people than Congress.

2. Wow. No special rights for Israel. 12 years seems too short, however.

3. If 12 years was 12 years, I'd agree. But they'll work for his release.
Like they always do with their spies, trying to convince us that somehow it wasn't that big a deal.

...pardeons them both on his last day in office, well....I wouldn't be suprised.

7. Fitz and McNulty have been working together on this and Plame
since at least Fall of 2005, maybe even sooner. Don't be fooled into thinking this case is all by itself this involves a lot of people.

Ex-Pentagon analyst jailed for sharing US secrets
Fri Jan 20, 2006 12:15 PM ET

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia (Reuters) - A former Pentagon analyst was sentenced to 12 years and seven months in prison on Friday for passing U.S. defense information to two pro-Israel lobbyists and for sharing classified information with an Israeli diplomat.

Lawrence Franklin, who previously worked as an analyst in the office of the secretary of defense, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis. Franklin had pleaded guilty in October to sharing the information and also to illegally possessing classified documents.

Franklin had faced up to 25 years in prison. His sentence could be further reduced because of his cooperation with the government which is still prosecuting a case against the two remaining defendants in the case -- former officials of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a pro-Israel lobbying group.

8. Are these the two guys from AIPAC who claim that
the US officials were just "giving away" information and therefore they shouldn't be charged?

9. Something like that.
He denied that he had passed any information to Rosen or anyone else that he was not authorized to.
