President could get a 165 year prison sentence, a $330,000 fine, or both.

Yeah, that is if the prosecutors are easy and don't do the individual counts based upon each authorization of the illegal NSA warrantless spying program. He could have pay millions in fines if the prosecutors decide to charge him for every person who has been illegally wiretapped. (And depending on the number of people wiretapped, the President could also be punished with a 1,000+ year prison sentence.)

So could anyone else who participated in the illegal wiretapping. They may also be charged with conspiracy to commit a criminal offense.

That is why they are fighting so hard for this program; they are in some DEEP SHIT if the recent decision in this matter is upheld on appeal. These people are so lucky that they have a (Corrupt-Authoritarian) Republican Congress, or they would be in the slammer as we speak.

That is why they are fighting so hard for Congress. (Of course there is the high probability that no impeachment proceedings will begin because our weasels don't want to look weak on national security.)

1. That's exactly where these criminals belong.. behind bars.
I hope congress grows some balls. People don't like the idea of the govt tapping their phones.

4. Don't tease me.
I love fantasies as much as the next guy, and this is one hell of an attractive one, but I know that none of these bastards will get so much as a slap on the wrist for anything they've done during their reign of error.

It's nice to dream, though.

5. Do we get to hand him over to the International Criminal Court after...
So they can prosecute him for his war crimes too(the simple act of invading a sovereign country that wasn't presenting an imminent threat)? Seems to me such crimes should apply both separately and cumulatively for each and every person that dies as a consequence of the act.

6. What a lovely fantasy.
I doubt it will happen, but I do love imagining Bush and Cheney breaking rocks in the yard at Leavenworth.

7. ya know, when Nixon was in trouble and there was talk of him
going to prison for his cromes, I really believed that no American President should ever go to prison. Impeach them, fine them, sanction them, but NOT JAIL!

NOW, I have to honestly say this one deserves to be behind bars!

I am very sad for my Country and what he has done to destroy so much.

I've never really hated anyone ever in my life, but now.......

13. It Will Certainly Make For An Interesting Opinion Either Way
When this case hits the Court, and you can bet it will, the opinion that results will mark either the rebirth or death of this nation.

This isn't about spying or wiretapping. This is about the rule of law.

19. If I weren't against the death penalty, I'd say ultimate poetic justice
Edited on Sat Aug-19-06 12:59 AM by Phredicles
would be for Bush to end up strapped to a gurney on the White House lawn.

*sigh*

But since I am against the death penalty, I would cheerfully settle for the 165 years in prison thing.

Or maybe he and Saddam could be cell-mates at The Hague (cue "Odd Couple" theme...)?

Oh, I'd love to see the whole Bush cartel behind bars, but considering how many D's are standing behind Lieberman ......... well I would not pin my hopes on the Democrats having the ovaries to throw GW in San Quentin.
