Ohio Restoration Project won't let Homophobic lie regarding Strickland die
Edited on Fri Aug-18-06 05:32 PM by ck4829
"Here's a bizarre postscript to the story we brought you last week about the Republican operative who was fired by the Ohio GOP for sending out an email questioning Ted Strickland's churchgoing record and floating speculation that Strickland and wife are gay.

It seemed like the story would end there. But it hasn't.

Now we're hearing from one Reverend Russell Johnson, a prominent Republican pastor who happens to be the e-mail author's old boss at the conservative Ohio Restoration Project. Rev. Johnson still isn't satisfied.

Rev. Johnson is insinuating that if the Stricklands really weren't gay, why, they'd file a lawsuit and go to court so they could prove it and clear their good name. Until that happens, Johnson says, he's "withholding judgment" on the Stricklands' sexuality."

It's not like Johnson is going to vote for Strickland or anything, so why is he soooooo concerned about Strickland and his wife?

1. It's really difficult to press a lawsuit when you are a candidate
They can pretty much accuse you of intimate relations with livestock so long as they choose their words carefully. People running for office have practically no protection from slander since it can be argued that they chose to make themselves public figures. So this guy's claim that Strickland could have sued is pretty much moot. And besides, aren't wingnuts supposed to be against lawsuits?

3. Sure they are. But "men of God" are also supposed to be against...
... bearing false witness, which is one of the Ten Commandments. They're supposed to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, who said, "Judge not, lest ye also be judged."

Matter of fact, Jesus didn't have anything to say about gays. He did, however, have plenty to say about religious hypocrites and the special place in hell reserved just for them.

6. As well as Jesus' silence about gays, every OT condemnation
of homosexuality is linked to the practice of idolatry. The Canaanite religions sponsored temple prostitution of both the male and female persuasion, so in a sense homosexuality was directly related to rejecting God.

2. How low will the repubs go??
Apparantly there is no limit. This is going to be a very nasty election, but, I fear it is just a prelude to `08.

4. You know, a responsible candidate . . .
A responsible candidate would tell the Rev. Johnson to knock it the hell off, but I guess Mr. Blackwell isn't responsible. In that case, if I was Ted Strickland, I'd offer to knock off a quickie with the wife on the altar during Rev. Johnson's next worship service.
