A week of bush, a weekend of comfort foods (Shrimp Po-Boys)
Start with sliced 6-inch lengths of French Bread, slather with mayonnaise, make a nice bed of lettuce, sliced tomatoes and onion, salt and pepper. Pile on fried shrimp and get carried away with a shaker of hot sauce. Add a side of hushpuppies, Pop open an ice cold beer, forget the republican party for a day or two and enjoy.

This would best be done on a balcony overlooking Bourbon Street.

1. OK. Now you've done it. I'm hungry and I need a Shrimp Po- Boy now!
Edited on Fri Aug-18-06 11:49 AM by CottonBear
(or at least this weekend.) Fortunately, there are three Cajun restaurants in my area! :)
I like oyster Po-Boys even better!

How ya doing BOSS? Are you going down to the French Quarter this weekend? I'm hosting a DU meetup here in GA tomorrow afternoon! We'll make a toast to all of our fellow DUers! :toast:
:hi:

2. Hello Dear
I seem to always WANT a Shrimp Po-Boy. I do enjoy an Oyster, but I believe I'm addicted to the Shrimp. The Alpine Bistro on Chartres makes my favorite. They are the only place in town I find that puts Onions on them. We may go to the Bywater Arts Festival tomorrow (always on the third Sat of the month.) Its about six blocks east of the quarter on Royal Street. Lots of local artisans showing off their products. Very nice. I got to slip down to the quarter and do some Christmas Shopping. I noticed my wife eyeballing a beautiful Necklace the last time we were down. Rubies with a fantastic Fleurdlis centerpiece. And very reasonable. Hope ya'll have a great time tomorrow.

7. Would that be Paula Deen?
I'm not related to Paula but I do enjoy her show on Sunday Mornings. She is a cook who really enjoys her job. And I just love that Charleston accent as she goes about making up a big ole batch of s-reamp (that's at least three syllables.).

9. Mr. CB likes the shrimp Po-Boys the best as well.
I wish I could remember the name of the takeout place in Lacombe that sells awesome Po-Boys. It's on the main highway that runs through town but it's out away from the shopping center and interstate. We always get Po-Boys from there when we visit!

You simply must buy Mrs. BOSSHOG that necklace! It sounds like it is beautiful! You are so organized! Christmas shopping in AUugust! Oh my! ;)

We'll think of you when we GA DUers meet up tomorrow in beautiful Athens, GA! :hi:

13. I usually have my
Christmas Shopping done by now, but I've just not gotten out much since the Hurricane and gas prices. I used to drive my Sailors insane with my anal retentive time management. We went to the Arkansas-Georgia Football Game on 2 October 1993 in Athens. Hogs Won. I still got the ticket stubs. Beautiful weather and beautiful geography, similar to Northwest Arkansas. I'll get that necklace if I can find it. I'm not too familiar with Lacombe, but no doubt if the place is still open, the Po-boys are still great.

3. Don't like the shrimp -- but I sure like the sausage po-boys!
With all that GARLIC sauce...Hmmmmmmmmmm......

(though I eat them at a place called 'New Orleans Takeout' up here in WI -- former NO resident John Roussos cooks it up pretty good...)

8. I Love you Man!
You can start working on your culinary map now for your visit in November. I highly recommend The Alpine of Chartres if you want a Shrimp Po-Boy; barely a five minute stroll from Cafe DuMonde.

6. I'd rather have several servings of shrimp and remoulade sauce
from the Star diner near Canal street. Heaven, simply heaven.

10. I usually make a mess
with the bun and the tomatoes. Just pigging out on Shrimp is a wonderful pasttime. There is a Restaurant on Bourbon called "Remoulade." Its Arnoud's gift to the masses. A very nice menu including Blackened Chicken Pizza, Oh My!

14. LOL, you should see my husband
He was sucking all the sauce off the lettuce and licking the glass to boot. He loves the stuff. So do I.

The Star, imho, is one of the best places to eat in NOLA. Of course, I would love to go back to Brennan's too. I trust your culinary tastes and would be willing to give "Remoulade" a shot though. As soon as we can get back for a visit we'll have to try out "Remoulade".

Yummmm, blackened chicken pizza! Now I'm hungry.

17. I remembered you have a Kansas connection
Oh my gawd, that menu. Be still my beating heart (and my tastebuds). I'm drooling.

I'd need to go with a group so I could get a taste of everything. That's what we did the last time we were there. The size of our group varied from time to time but there were always at least three of us going to a restaurant. We all ordered different items so we could taste everything we could. I can't tell you how many hours I spent doing nothing more than savoring the flavors of the food as they danced in my mouth. I swear, I must have gained close to ten pounds while I was there.

I did a lot more sitting and savoring than sight seeing.

11. well, being from 'way out West...
it isn't my comfort food...but, my family visited on Sunday last to celebrate my birthday, and I got to order the cake myself. After that heatwave, I wasn't going anywhere close to an oven, so- I had a white cake with chocolate fudge filling, chocolate frosting and pink roses. If I lived near a German bakery, I would have order my all-time favorite pastry: Schwartzwaelder Kirschtorte. Chocolate cake and frosting, with cherries and Kirsch/whipped cream filling.

Huzzah for chocolate!

Glad you enjoyed your Po-Boy, I am still eating on my cake. :hi:

(West=drive west 100+ miles into Pacific Ocean.)

15. Our favorite is fried oysters poor boy
My granda was from LA and it was a New Years tradition with our family. His were layered with tomato and sour dill pickles and lots of hot sauce! I make them once a week when oysters are in season.
