Honest Q for Dems: How long before we're strangled with yellow ribbons?
Edited on Fri Aug-18-06 10:39 AM by elehhhhna
Does "Rwanda" ring a bell? Run, find the Reynolds Wrap and just follow me, here...

US hate radio/television is maintaining a frenzied pitch, inciting--sometimes outright suggesting--violence against us, as African radio did to "the enemy within" during the planning & organization of Rwanda's rolling massacres.

Our Jingoists pride themselves on having invented a "civilized" society, so they won't take up pangas (machetes, to the uninitiated). Too bloody. Too personal. NeoCons woud predictably prefer to mount cowardly sneak attacks from behind, and garrotting us in our beds with Support The Troops ribbons? A fittingly poetic gesture.

They don't have to wipe us all out, of course. A handful of attacks will cow most of us into silence.

Flame away, chuckle at the hyperbole, then answer the question, please.

1. Hey, lay off!
The "yellow ribbon making industry" is the only growing sector of manufacturing jobs left in the country!

2. I look forward to the attempt on me
You have an excellent point because as bush's base continues to shrink it is growing increasingly more ignorant (because the somewhat smart ones are finally jumping ship.) The die hard "patriots," if you will, remain to wield the ribbons. They are incredibly easy to manipulate by the badasses on the radio. You know, the guys who are oh so brave hiding behind a microphone but just were too damned busy to serve their country in uniform and are really really pissed inside anytime someone brings it up.

To those wielding yellow ribbons, come get me. But may I suggest you pack a lunch.

10. We are Neighbors Dear
I just live down the road a piece (thousand miles?) As that great American Will Rogers said - "Ain't no such thing as a stranger, just a friend I haven't met yet."

9. A few years back
I participated on a local forum and we started having met ups. One of the biggest pain-in-the-ass freepers on the forum decided to show up. This guy was still fighting the civil war and his daughter & son-in-law were both in Iraq for the invasion. Well it turned out, Mr. Lock & Load was a mess. A former Vet with MS. Some days can't walk. Can't see out of one eye any more. His own country has screwed him every which way from Sunday and he can't see it. Go figure? Other then all that, there was a warped but decent man inside. He doesn't realize that all the hate he keeps inside of him is only making him sicker. This is what's left of Bush's base.

3. I've thought about that. Hate radio and TV is dangerous
and can spur violence. Maybe not on the scale of Rwanda, but it is the same type of situation. It at least will desensitize them if the government or an institution decided to do someting not in keeping with our traditions concerning democrats. Anybody see a huge outcry about democrats being thrown out of churches?

6. It played an integral part in Rwanda's murder-spree.
The parallels are stronger than you might guess.

12. I didn't mean the parallels weren't strong.
Maybe I expect more here but I certainly won't take it for granted that it can't be on that scale.

7. The thing is
we outnumber the braindead now, our numbers grow daily. If the koolaod drinkers amongst us get up the nerve to try to drygulch us they're going to find it to be a very big job.

Most of these people are out and out cowards, not all of them would have the stomach to stand up, the ones who did could be dealt with pretty quick, not all of us would go peacefully into the night,
So, to quote our fearless leader* "Bring it on".

11. Because of my show I've had so many threats that I don't
even report them anymore. The only time I've been able to confront one of them he broke down and cried like a baby, saying he was taking medication and the confrontation might cause him to have a heart attack if I didn't leave him alone.
