FDR said we have nothing to fear but fear itself. That bit of advice for the American people has been swept away by the present hysteria created by the Republicans. They have modernized and updated it to, "You should fear everyting." Old ladies with their lipstick. Decrepit old men with their pill bottles. Young people with their energy drinks. Young mothers with their babies and their nursing bottles. There is nothing we should not be afraid of - the sky is indeed falling.

How regularly do we see despairing posts about how we shouldn't get our hopes up for the fall, that some Rovian Trick or Voting Fraud will ensure that we never win a significant election? How often do we see posts arguing that President Bush can basically do what ever he wants and that American Democracy is over and has been over for a while?

Isn't that a variation on the theme?

Although admittedly, the people who make those posts aren't trying to scare us into supporting something - just generally reflecting the zietgeist of the time, which is despair and fear.

We MUST stop with the despair. We CAN do it! Just have to keep plugging away and stay involved. We WILL prevail here no matter what they do. Be watchful and keep your cameras ready, they will stumble.
