Troops Express Worries about Iraq

By PAULINE JELINEK
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - {snip}

Troops are also disgruntled over Iraqi efforts, according to questions put to Marine Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, when he visited the country over the weekend.

One asked how much more time the Iraqi government should be given to achieve the political unity needed to stabilize the country.

Another wanted to know whether U.S. forces will stay if Iraqis descend into all-out civil war.

And a third ended a question about continued U.S. troop deployments to Iraq by asking, "Is the war coming to an end?"

. . . he also said he detected among them "some frustration at the Iraqis for not yet grasping the opportunity that's in front of them."

1. Maybe he should go over there and use his old cheerleader training...
...to motivate those soft-bottomed malcontents as they hump their 60 pound packs by manfully weaving in and out around them on his little bicyle and telling them "you can do it" and "suck it up" in the over 100 degree heat. "Air Assault!"

3. Blame the victim
(Pace) also said he detected among them "some frustration at the Iraqis for not yet grasping the opportunity that's in front of them."

:wow:

Just WOW. What do the troops/Pentagon expect the Iraqis to do about the religious militias that even they can't control with all their tanks and guns and bombs? Those bastards fanned out and took over right after the invasion and have only solidified their power since then, and we didn't lift a finger to stop them. Many act on behalf of the very puppets that Bush** helped put into the government.

I think that qualifies as a "seized opportunity", though not the one most Iraqis would have preferred.

And now we're supposed to blame the Iraqis for what? Because a cab driver and his wife weren't equipped to defend themselves and their children indefinitely against roaming death squads?

Jesus H. Christ.

4. INGRATES!!! Every one of them ingrates...
...and after all we've done for them...and to them...and allowed to come about for them.

It's just like how that new corresdpondent on the Daily Show (I forget his name) described it. Something along the lines of, "We view the chaos and violence in our country I'm sure in the same way you in American view 9/11--'Tough day...but great opportunity.'"

10. I thought those lazy Iraqis were supposed to have a Decider monument built
Here we take the time and trouble to invade and occupy their country, and they still haven't put up the statue of Junior? That's pretty darned ungrateful.
