Would a 'strong belief' in Santa Claus make him real???
~snip~ Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, at a hastily called news conference after the decision, said he was both surprised and disappointed by the ruling on the operation, which focuses on communications of people suspected of ties to Al Qaeda.

Administration officials “believe very strongly that the program is lawful,” said Mr. Gonzales, a main architect of the program as White House counsel and the biggest defender of its legality in a series of public pronouncements that began after the program was disclosed by The New York Times last December.

If I strongly believe in Santa Claus, it doesn't make him real?????

1. Thought this was going to be about religion
That's the tricky thing about our courts system - people are allowed to make their case, and then make it again and again and again, all the wya up the ladder.

2. I believe very strongly that Gonzales is a treasonous bastard
...and one day soon he'll be defending himself against a tattooed cellmate who insists on calling him Betty.

4. One of the strengths
of our legal system is that it allows for the courts to make an objective determination of if something "is lawful" or not. A.G. Gonzales may very well believe that the administration's actions are lawful, but it is always hard to get a clear view of a picture when one is standing inside the frame.

6. This is a "faith based" presidency...
To hell with the facts. To hell with the law. If they "believe" it, then that's the way it is.

8. It is the definition of the word lawful that is the key word....
And with these crooks, they are trying to define what they have done, but there is a law on the books that defines that already, so they can believe all they want, but they acted unlawfully when they did not go to the FISA Court....

9. Hard to believe he is a lawyer
If he passed the bar exam, he would have to know that he's lying.

11. This administration holds there is no such thing as empirical reality...
...appearance is all. Just say something is legal and they think that makes it so. Just say Iraq is going swimmingly and that trumps whatever is really happening.

Reality is an inward choice, not an outward presence.

12. I wish Santa were real
I think a lot of kids who grew up to be assholes would understand right from wrong a little better (See: Bush).
