Can Lieberman be recalled?
He no longer represents the Democrats who elected him. Can we get rid of this kiss-ass, succubus.

1. Probably not
I would guess if that were an option, it rests in the hands of the legislature? Because surely if the people could sign a petition, we'd already be hearing about it.

That said, he is getting a recall election in November.

3. It wasn't "Democrats" that elected him.
It was the citizens of Connecticut. Never forget that.

4. Who let the dogs out?
Lieberman will jump to the GOP ... let's recall him ... is it something in the air?

6. I can't understand how he ever got elected.
He oozes slime. He is the consummate politician, he has no loyalties, no moral convictions, he's a shylock who lends support to the highest bidder. I must say he reflects poorly on Al Gore's presidential campaign and who was behind his selection as a running mate.

7. You're condemning Lieberman for being a politician?
Seriously, I understand the hostility but, knowing the history of the region, it's misdirected. Lamont, for all his personal wealth, has an uphill climb to represent Connecticut. Until Lieberman loses, the wisest course would be to support the party candidate while respecting our opposition.

11. it appears that, as a Dem VP candidate, he was a repuke plant
--it is to the shame of the party that that piece of scheist ran with the most wonderful Al Gore. May the next presidential candidate have MUCH MORE SENSE.

13. "Shylock"? Your Freudian slip is showing.
How many Gentile politicians have you called "Shylock" this week?

8. Hahaha, not under our Constitution

The ability to recall sitting congressmen was probably considered "too much" democracy by the Founders. If the citizens of Connecticut vote for Lieberman, they get what they want...for the next six years.

10. I'm unsure, but can't the party eject him?
When someone usually does something like that in the UK (get deselected by their party) the next thing that Party HQ is usually telling that person is that they're no longer welcome as members of their party and the "party whip" is withdrawn from them.

Usually however most people just switch parties. Personally it seems that the Republicans are offering Joe more backing than the official candidate so perhaps they could ask their candidate to step aside and plunge all their advertising dollars into Joe's campaign.

/Mark.

12. In the US system, you can't strip a person of party membership
You have the freedom to register under whichever party you wish. You also have the freedom to remain registered under whichever party you wish for as long as you want regardless if your views are still in line with the party itself.

All the Democratic primary did was tell Lieberman that Democrats preferred Lamont over him and that Lieberman is not the candidate the Democratic Party will support in the general election. It did not tell him he has no right to run in the general election as somebody other than the preferred Democratic candidate, and he is exercising that fact.
