Authorities Warning Women Not to Wear Gel Bras
I just have one question. What the heck is a gel bra???

Authorities Warning Women Not to Wear Gel Bras
As Worries of Possible Female Bombers Increase

U.S. authorities are advising women not to wear gel bras on airplanes as information developed in the foiled London plot points to an expanding role for women in smuggling explosives on to an aircraft.

4. I am guessing it's some kind of padded bra.
Not that I would know since I don't need any pads.

And I've been wondering the same damn thing myself.

7. Instead of sponge padding
it has gel padding or inserts. Some of them can be taken out (push up pads). Only reason I know this is because they are now even putting them in D cups. WHY in the world any woman who wears a D cup would want extra padding is beyond me. I certainly don't.

the xray machines at some and soon to be more airports gives a black and white of nakedness. i had heard and ranted about it months ago and then allowed myself to forget about it since i had to take a plane trip out of the country, about sure it was at dallas international. pretended it wasnt there.

last night i saw an xray on the news. showed the friggin pubic hair and fuzzed out the penis. that is what we are walking thru at least some of the airports. just sick of all this give up any right in the name of safety. news said if you want to protect private area for modesty put a metal plate down friggin pants. must of been a joke though i didnt hear any laughing. thinking that would surely set of alarms

17. How exactly are they going to check for this?
Edited on Thu Aug-17-06 07:49 PM by antigone382
They already discourage women from wearing underwire bras, but they can tell whether or not you're wearing one as soon as you go through the metal detector (at which point they have to feel along the wire of the bra...*shudder*) How do you check to see if someone's wearing a gel bra? I don't know of any "gel detection" technology. Are they going to manually test every single woman's bra to make sure it meets the criteria? I can just see women lining up for THAT.

(btw, gel bras have a layer of gel in them to make the bust appear larger. Supposedly they look more natural than bras with the usual foam filling. They look damn heavy and uncomfortable.)

21. my 80 yr old MOM has a GEL prosthesis ever since her mastectomy....
Should I tell her to leave it off when she and her friend fly to Michigan next month???? HINT - she would be appalled to appear "lopsided" in public, and to let people(strangers) know she had a mastectomy. And she would be absolutely HORRIFIED if airport security was so intimate with her as to check for "real" vs. "enhanced" breasts.

34. Yes, you would.
A friend of mine returned home early this week and watched as they made children with gel sneakers (those with the flashing lights in them) take them off and throw them away. They gave them some sort of 'slipper sock' to wear. Who knows what these children encountered in the parking areas walking without adequate protection.

35. Why are they just picking on women?
Between the lip gloss dumping and this, it's beginning to look like they are picking on a demography that won't fight back as quickly. How, many men wear gel pack soles in their shoes. Are they being warned against them?

41. It's all about getting us to suspect eachother.
Then they don't have to scare us anymore, which is getting to be such a drag for them. They have to orchestrate these regular terror drills, remember which color to run up the flag pole today and so forth. Once they get us fearing eachother and looking suspiciously at eachother, and better yet - turning on eachother, they will have succeeded.

Gel bras a safety risk.

Of course we'd get arrested for indecent exposure. This is one freedom women haven't won yet. Men can go shirtless without much notice, but gawd forgive a woman for doing it.

Maybe. But I seriously suspect it's the titillation factor (no pun intended) that is causing security to dwell on women's brassieres.
Gel shoes are nowhere near as naughty as gel bras.

It's the 13 year old hiding in the adult males. Speaking of 13 year olds, just yesterday I saw one wearing a t-shirt with giant lettering: FEMALE BODY INSPECTOR
So apropos and timely of that teen to wear that shirt yesterday.

Edited on Fri Aug-18-06 05:55 PM by RamboLiberal
<snip>

In the travel tips listed on the agency's Web site - www.tsa.gov - mention is made of "gel-filled bras," but mostly in the context of those worn as prosthetics by breast-cancer survivors who have undergone mastectomies.

Such passengers are urged to pack their bras in their checked baggage, but also advised that those with "medical gel" prosthetics will be allowed through security checkpoints. The agency says it is "reaching out" to women's medical associations to spread the word about the policy.

"We recognize it's a sensitive issue," said TSA spokesman Darrin Kayser.

<snip>

Asked whether - and how - airport screeners would differentiate between women wearing "medical gel" bras or those enhanced for cosmetic purposes, Kayser said women would be neither poked nor questioned about the contents of their undergarments. Instead, security would be ensured by other "levels" of security in airports.

"It's not going to be something we're going to ask about at checkpoints," Kayser said. "We have a lot of different ways to detect" dangerous substances.

http://www.timesrecordnews.com/trn/nw_washington/article/0,1891,TRN_5707_4927332,00.html

<snip>

On Thursday, KBCI CBS 2 News learned from TSA that the rule had changed.Now, all bras are allowed on all flights.The TSA website reflects that change.The lines "for medial reasons," and "we encourage everyone to pack gel-filled bras in checked baggage," are gone.
