blind, stupid Bush worshipers whom you describe, or even the cynical greed bags. I am convinced they are, and always have been, a minority. I am much more concerned about Democrats and other progressives who think they are outnumbered, who get the IMPRESSION from the war profiteering corporate news monopolies that that THEY are in the minority, and are powerless against this minority of lame-brained 'christian' warmongers, who have been given a big trumpet to promote their views, way out of proportion to their numbers, because it suits our corporate rulers to make us think that we are alone, isolated and helpless to overthrow them.
Another kind of denial and insanity on our side that bothers me--I mean, OUR belief in BushWorld (that it is a real democracy, which is a form of, not insanity exactly, but brainwashing, and associated denial)--is the acceptance, by us, of the MIND-BOGGLING SILENCE of our Democratic leaders about the Bushite corporate takeover of our election system, which happened recently--2002-2004--and consists of corporations with very close ties to the Bush junta gaining control of our election results electronically with TRADE SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code, and virtually no audit/recount controls, in all the new electronic voting systems, funded with nearly $4 billion of our tax dollars, and engineered by the biggest crooks in Congress, Tom Delay and Bob Ney.
THAT's DENIAL. On OUR parts. As to our party leaders, I don't know what it is --a complex picture of fear (this happened in the Anthrax Congress), corruption (of 'Democrats' like Christopher Dodd--corporatists)--and possibly collusion on the war. And some ignorance--although I really don't think it's plausible that people who are dependent on votes for their power could be so oblivious to who is counting them and how. Some of them are now crawling out of this fear/corruption cave, but painfully slowly.
I think we should worry less about the denial and insanity of Bush's faithful, and more about the ways that we have allowed OURSELVES to be brainwashed and fooled. We can't do anything about their moronic views. But we CAN do something about our powerlessness.
I'm not saying that this promotion of inquisitionists, witch-burners, bigots and 'christian' hypocrites is not worrisome. You can't know history and not be concerned about such regression. But I really think we should beware of blowing it out of proportion. Most of these stupid people are being used--and the threat comes from those with illegitimate power who are using them. It is the powerful operatives of this fascist cabal that we must find the way to DISEMPOWER--the Bush's, the Cheney's, the Diebold's, the CNN's--those with criminal intent and those that are the products of monopolistic power.

How?
Well, one way is the citizen-driven protest of Absentee Ballot voting this fall. We need to bust the machines. Refuse to vote on them. Boycott them. FLOOD election officials with MOUNTAINS of paper ballots to deal with, and FORCE reform NOW. AB votes are not "safe, and will NOT give us accurate vote counts in November (that is impossible), but if enough people vote AB (and many are--it's up to 50% in Los Angeles), we can create panic and crisis in the election theft industry, and force state/local election officials to the table. The election reform movement is growing by leaps and bounds--numerous groups formed, lawsuits pending, books, articles and web sites created--but there is nothing on the horizon that can stop Stolen Election III this year. So we MUST protest--in the most effective and massive way that we can. AB voting is easy. Everybody can do it. Being part of a protest aimed at un-rigging the system is an incentive to vote, and will help turnout. Massive AB voting will also bring more scrutiny to how AB and other paper ballots are handled. We have nothing to lose, and much to gain by making this protest a really big one.
-------------------
That's one idea. What we're doing here--communicating with other progressives around the country--is another. And helping each of us put the facts together. My favorite is that the Democrats blew the Bushites away in new voter registration in 2004, nearly 60/40. Not everybody knows that. (And how did Rove beat that? His line AFTER the election--it was their "invisible get-out-the-vote campaign in the churches." No evidence for any significant success of it--none, zilch.) Another: 56% of the American people opposed Bush's war on Iraq FROM THE BEGINNING. Feb. '03, before the invasion. I'll never forget that stat. And another: 63% of the American people oppose torture "under any circumstances." 63%! UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. (May '04.) Their warmongering propaganda is NOT WORKING. WE LIBERALS are the MAJORITY. Bust through the illusion!
