1. Sounds odd. And illegal.
There are labor laws in every state, even in the South. This eight-hour rule is simply unenforceable...if you have to pee really badly, there is no "wait four hours until your shift ends." I just don't believe it. Not your wife, she may have been told this by a super, but I don't believe the super was acting legally if he really said it. This just can't be legal, no way, no how.

3. You legally don't have to give them a break
Not even a pee break. Not unless there's a State or corporation rule in place. And, I know there is no such rule in NC.

5. You LEGALLY don't have to do ANYTHING unless a State rule is in place!
But that was the point...state labor laws. Does SC have none? I didn't know there was a state in the union that didn't have labor laws requiring some sort of breaks to workers during the course of a work day. But maybe I'm wrong.

10. Winston-Salem is in NC
And no, they don't. I'd wager that at least half of the states don't have such laws... maybe more. And, the Supreme Court found that you don't have to give workers bathroom breaks, etc. I believe that was the case against Perdue (chicken).

2. Bullshit.
I recently flew out of LAX and all of the restaurants and convenience stores past the checkpoint were serving beverages. The only thing closed was the duty-free liquor store.

The flight attendants were serving beverages and more of them that two days before the scare.

This is all hype.

6. You and bornagain are talking of different things
The OP was speaking of his wife, working at an airline counter, NOT just anyone. Of course you can still buy beverages in the concourses. No one said you couldn't. The OP said his wife, though, was required to work the counter for eight hours with no breaks and no liquids. I simply don't believe it. But for different reasons than you.

8. I think you need to read the OP again...
the wife was a passenger not a worker.

9. Oh...now I believe it even less
Edited on Thu Aug-17-06 01:01 PM by Atman
So the wife was just a passenger on-line, and was told by a worker at the counter that she wasn't allowed any beverages during her shift? Harrumph. I believe the OP and the wife as to what they heard. I don't believe the counter worker for a minute.

7. My neighbor works at IND
He and the other security employees can only drink fluids on break now, and many are being required to work overtime to meet the demands of these new requirements.
