I did not know Tyra Cole when she was alive. Saturday, when I learned of her death in Nashville, even the newspaper did not know her full name. But reading the story about her murder brought tears to my face, something that rarely happens to this cynical man.
Tyra was homeless. Like many homeless people in Nashville, she lived/stayed in the downtown area. Her habit was to sleep on one of the public boat docks in Riverfront Park - one block from the main downtown bar areas. According to reports, two men were picking fights with the homeless in the area. At 3:30 am, the men walked out onto the dock where Tyra was sleeping, and rolled her into the Cumberland River. Several homeless men tried to save her, but were unable to. Tyra's body still has not been found, nor have her killers been identified.
What type of upbringing leads two men to have "fun" by baiting the homeless, and then push a sleeping woman to her death?
